Just recieved an engine from a friend that is going into a TT600, one of the mounts where the exhaust headers bolt to is smashed. As you can see the one on the right (upper mounting) is the problem, will it hold the header on OK? There is about half of it left and the raised area that it sits against is also missing.

Seems to be other bits of small damage around that area so I assume there was a frontal impact which did this, they are cunts really as it isn't hard to notice that; was described as excellent condition I seem to recall. Makes me a bit concerned as to what else is broken.

FWIW I'm told if you make a bit of a mould then you could use something like JB Weld. However, from another source I've been advised that this can be quite brittle (easy to remove). Just passing this info on in case it is any use. Could try, it can't make it any worse, could it?

The place in question have offered to pay for the welding (£50 they reckon)

Will the heat kill the headgasket?

Hi

To be honest I think you need to go and speak to a good local welder who can repair alloy (not many can). It should be possible, but to be honest I would not be happy spending £650 on a damaged engine.

Pay by credit card?

All the best

Keith

It needs to be built up with weld, shaped, drilled, tapped etc. The head will need to be removed for this & then skimmed to remove any weld from the mating surface.

Or just find another head.

And the main point to buying this engine was the trashed head on the original engine.

All the best
