Right, today i got pulled for having no L plates(i know they should be on but you get much more respect with them off) front and back.

This means i hve 6 points on my provisional to carry onto my full licence when i do it next month.

Will this mean i will be banned straight away from my full licence or is it you can only get 6 points from when your ull licence starts?

Also what can carrying a pillion passenger on l plates do to you?

cheers, matt

It means that you will keep your license when you pass, but if you get 1 more point your license will be revoked and you will be back on L's again.

just noticed the pillion bit,
I take back my sarcastic respect

I dont hope you get banned as personally i dont give a shit and tbh i don't think you do either and youll carry on riding anyway. but ffs man, if you crash with the pillion on whilst being disqualified anyway you in my oppinion should be tryed for attempted murder

don't go giving bikers a bad name and class yourself as one at the smae time

You take the L plates off because you get more respect? Shocked

How much respect are the real bikers here giving you? Confused

What you are is a liability mate, people fork out good money to pass a bike test and ditch the L plates, if you get caught carrying a pillion i hope they throw the book at you. Also your pillion could well sue you if you crash with them on?

Have you passed your car test yet? In the last two years?

(You're okay if it's been more than two years as you're out of the probabtionary period for your first test pass.)

DVLA info on The Road Traffic ( New Drivers) Act 1995

Quote:
If the number of valid penalty points shown on your driving licence total 6 or more during the two year probationary period immediately following your first driving test, your full driving licence will be revoked by DVLA until such time as you pass a further driving test.

Valid penalty points incurred prior to passing the first test are taken into account if the driver commits a penalty point offence during the probationary period. Points incurred after the probationary period has expired will also count if the offence was committed during the probationary period.

Sounds to me like you may just have got yourself a ban Confused

You were riding without L plates Shocked You deserve the death penalty Rolling Eyes

Geez, they way some of you are talking it's as if he's just f*cked your dog.

You were a bit unlucky to get 6 points from just having no L plates, is that the whole story? I was stopped without them (just bought and insured the bike at 8pm so no chance to get any that evening but i was eager to go out on it.) but after checking the bike over they just told me to get some when i have chance.

Get some L plates, learn from it and don't go carrying any pillions untill you pass your test.

That's the correct penalty AFAIK - it's three points per missing L-plate - there should be two of them Thumbs Up

Sounds like you were lucky and got a sympathetic copper, Spannermonkey.

Pillion can probably successfully sue even if he displayed his L plates. Especially if his insurance will cover his liability.

Did you try and talk your way out of it like saying they were ripped off when you were parked by a chav so you were on way to get some more, or did you bend over and take it all the way. That excuse prob wouldn't have worked but it was worth trying something like it.

Sounds like you have been unlucky mate although you should have had them on. Hope it works itself out Thumbs Up

6 points on a provisional licence and you're considering what the outcome would be if you incurred 3 more points? What are you like!
Whatever happens, your insurance is going to be so bloody high if I were you (Doubtful, my brain is bigger than a pea) I'd hang up my L plates and forget driving/riding for a good couple of years.

You can aquire up to 12 points on a provisional. Once you pass your first test, if you aquire and points in the first two years that take you to a total of 6 or more, you will have to retake your test (theory and practical.)

AFAIK carrying a pillion on L plates also carries a penalty of 3 points.

Lol at respect without L plates Shocked

Is that what you are going to say to your insurance company if they ask you about any previous penalty points? Razz

Just to clear this up, as it is murky, do you need L plates front and back or just the back plate?

Yes you need front and back, also, they should be full size and not mounted horizontal. Thumbs Up

Alot of people try to overtake me when they see my L's.
Sometimes I move over to give them space to pass, then return the overtake. Laughing

Just to clear this up. I have 6 points on my provisional licence from riding a courtesy bike with no insurance while my bike was being fixed. I thought my insurance covered me for the courtesy bike and the shop assured me i was covered. Anyway, The 6 points will go on to your full licence when you get it, and if you get one more point before the 6 points come off, it's bye bye licence.

If you're still on provisional, no. The two years only counts for the two years following your first pass (whether it be car, bike, HGV etc.)

If you have passed your test, then 3 or more points on top of the three you already have in the remaining year+ will result in a ban and a re-test.

Also what can carrying a pillion passenger on l plates do to you? You cannot carry a pillion. this question is a bit vague

cheers, matt

I know younger riders want to do odd things and disregard the law but you will come short of the law, the law enforcers are there to protect us ALL, my only tip to younger riders is to take the law seriously, go through your books again, do what it says and you wont have the law on your back, also note that the coppers who nicked you will be looking out for you, consider yourself as good as been hunted by a Lion in a open field and the bugger is hungary, its fair game[/b]

You must of being giving the copper some mouth for him to slap you in the face with 6 points.

I dont know of any police who would give out 6 straight points. They would warn you to put them on and if they catch you again, you will recieve the points.

I think theres more to it than a pair of L plates TBH.

ANyway, I think your a spanner. More respect my arse. Rolling Eyes

FFS its a moped, YOu look like a twat with or without L plates. Live with it dude.
I do!

Firstly, matty, you're a bellend. You dont tell the pig that the plates are at home and you cba to put them on, thats just fucking stupid. You are a thick shit. You say, sorry officer, but i only just got the bike today and am on my way to the shop to get some. No copper will give 3 or 6 points for that. You deserve points, and deserve high insurance, and deserve to crash alot.

I have 3 points on my provisional, but have now passed bike and car test. If i get another 3 is that goodbye to both bike and car? Also if i do loose bike and car licence, can i get straight onto a ped? Or do i have to re-do my cbt?

Cheers peeps

Fair enough on the l-plates, it isnt really a big issue, unless you're a totally useless rider, but carrying a pillion!? if it was a harmess mess-about in a quiet cul-de-sac, then fair enough, but you're just taking the p!ss if you're genuinely giving somebody a lift.

You loose your car & bike license. You need to aply for a provisional license and pass a cbt before you can ride a ped.
