When i search this forum for posts about locks all everyone seems to say is "GET AN ALMAX THEY ARE THE BEST"
But i have this months RiDE and the almax didnt come top.

Instead a squire lock and chain did, and its a lot cheaper at £79.99. I fancy getting myself one, anyone got one? Are RiDE telling the truth or not because they always seem to rate squire locks the best.

Also, i know the almax is freeze proof, but i cant find anything abouit he squire. Its called a SS50 MC4

I got one for my trip, so far so good. Seems solidly built. Very happy with it. I certainly would not know where to begin to break it.

I always take the reviews in the magazines with a pinch of salt as many are product biased etc.

You never know what's going on behind the scenes. If a company sends 10 expensive lock and chain sets to a mag "for testing" but they don't need to return them you can guess the outcome.

Everyone in the office gets a lock and the makers get a good review.

They don't all do it but i know for a fact a couple of car mags that do.

and if all chain/lock manufacturers do this, then they have more than one chain/lock each, so they need to test at least one of each so they know which one to keep Wink

well..

we can hope Smile

I just read on visordown, apparently the Almax locks that were tested were faulty.
Something to do with using a different plater to meet the deadline. None were sold but i would like to see the outcome of non faulty ones.

FFS people, you've got a zephyr 550...

It aint going to be done heist styley with liquid nitrogen and a crack team of pirate ninjas...

Worst you'll get is someone hot wiring it if it was unlocked, or if you left keys in it. Pretty much anything is a deterrent, in fact one of the best known ones is a bike cover.

Well i want a chain that will last. As long as i have a bike im going to need a chain so theres no point buying shite.
At least if i have something good it will give me piece of mind, i am paranoid all the time about leaving my bike.

Fair nuff. Just get concerned by people putting way too much money into things, when it could be spent on drinking...

I was lucky to pick up an oxford monster lock for just short of a ton at one of the bikeshows this summer.

Haggling rocks!

As someone else once said "Oxford locks are made of cheese."
