I've settled on a bike. As if you couldn't tell, a ZX6R. I have to get all my shit sorted, and save up enough for it, I reckon £2000 on the bike alone is enough, what do you think is a good buy age-wise for this?

I'll have it in 6-10 months if I'm lucky, the insurance is going to cost me around £1,000 for the first year! Crying or Very sad

I saw this:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1998-KAWASAKI-zx6r-g1-BLACK-GREY_W0QQitemZ4572778411QQcategoryZ9807QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

LOVE it, but is it too good to be true?

BTW I'm not considering this exact bike, but is this the sort of thing I should be after for my 2k?

No its true. Best look for a bike that has had the major service done (16k i think). Since there are many models of zx6r older ones are quite cheap and the market is really flat at the mo too which helps.

ps: If you do get one make sure its green - they are faster.

You're kidding right?!

I looked at the green ones but I'm not so keen on them, I love the colours of this one but looking at it again see it's an import Mad

Its an urban myth but i swear by it since ive got a green one but mines a j model which isnt much different to the g model except cosmetically and better rear shock and other subtle touches. Who know in winter for 2k you could buy a j model.

Good on you mate. It'll be worth it, its a fantastic bike and i love mine. Try and blag a ride from your local dealer.

Edit: that bike may be an import but you can get that paint scheme UK bike.

Thanks very much, I've been looking around and I've just fallen in love with it. If it comes to it I will sell the car as well, as I'm going to uni next year the chances are I won't be able to afford to run it anyway.

Bring on the ZX6R! Twisted Evil

I bloody hope so! Admittedly I did some ONLINE quotes last night, which ranged between £1400 and £2400. I knocked £400 off in the hope I could get it for £1000. Any less than that, I'll be pretty happy, considering I'm 17.

dont waste your money on insurance . £1000 is mad for insurance! i paid £490 for a thundercat at 17 but if i had held out till am 18 it would have been £400, so if your 18 in a month or something i would wait or at least see the price difference.

6 months or so, so by the time I get it I will probably be 18.

Just found a quote at www.insurance2000.co.uk as if I was buying the bike today, all present and correct, £898! Not too bad! If I phone around I should be able to knock that down, especially when I'm 18!!

WANT THIS SO MUCH!!

Location, location, location!

Someone here pays £3300 a year for their Gixxer, forgotten who it is, but that would put me off driving and riding, for good!

I could believe you could get quoted that. But it's hard to think anyone would actually pay that to insure their bike.

Surely if you can afford to pay that for insurance then you must be able to afford something far more exotic than a GSXR??

I can't remember who it is, but it certainly caused an outcry when they said it, considering their bike is probably worth slightly more than that.

Thank God I'm into the triple figures! Laughing

I paid £2700 for my 1999 G2 with 12k miles, FSH etc.

Hunt around, find your cheapest quote then call a company called Cofield and tell them minus £100, They'll probably beat it Smile They've done it for 2 years running for me. Just paid £480 TPFT, 22, 1yr NCB and a accident 1 year ago (this bumps it up majorly) oh and 3rd party cover on any bike.

I payed £3k for my J2 with 6500miles with 3 owners, FSH and mint.

For 2k you could probably get a tatty G1, or one of the F models, get the G model if you can, a much better bike.

Based on these September prices, for 2k I can get a good condish 1997-8 with about 15-20k, if only I had the money, a lovely one went today for 1500 only 20 miles from me!

Ey up,

Wait till after xmas and you should get a G model(1998-1999) for around 2k.....

.....alternatively my 2 owner G2, 18,000 miles, fully serviced beasty might be up for grabs.

Wouldn't bother with the F model, likely to be well knackered by now go for a G/J cracking bikes. Also ring Ronnie at Riders Choice tell him you are from the MCNninjas site( Embarassed Wink ) and he will do everything he can to make insurance affordable top bloke really.
