An Astra almost killed me!!!

I was going up sheffield parkway this afternoon doing a touch over 70mph and i changed into the fast lane to overtake. I always use my mirrors, indicators and lifesaver and there was nothing when i looked. I moved across and about 3 secs later this other car raced past me on the right hand side. He must have been doing about 100/110 and left about 3-5 inches between me and him and probably not much more on the other side.

I'm quite a confident rider but this shook me up. If i had been in the middle of my lane he would have clipped my bars or leg and i would have been gone.

Let's be careful of Auto speeders.
There are many rude drivers in non-sports car. Sports car drivers often have better manners than them. Worst is company cargo van.
Don't speed with such CAR! I sometimes feel like screaming Wink

I reckon he pulled out to overtake you without signalling, and never saw you move into the right-hand lane, then figured "i'll make it". Either that or you made a total balls-up.

I think probably the suggestion that he started out behind me is more likely. I did my observation just before i started to move over. I had spent about 3-4 secs in the lane before he came past. My point being that in that 3-4 secs that i was happily in the fast lane by stinkwheels calculations he had about 25 meters to slow down and wait for me to get out of his way, but instead he jammed his way through the tinyest gap.

I do see what you are all getting at though. The Astra was behind me somewhere, i just didnt see it.

Very inconsiderate of him, no matter how fast the car was going he should hve been able to antisapate what may happen, by doing what he did shows he's got no sense of his surroundings, if a copper had seen him he would have been done for dangerous driving which now carries a min 3 month ban. tosser. thry wont F**k with you on a big bike, I'll say no more

An astra at 120mph is moving at 56.7 m/s, meaning that in 3-4 seconds, he would have covered between 170 and 226.7 metres. If you were travelling at 70mph (33.1m/s), that leaves a closing speed of 23.611 m/s. In that 3-4 seconds, he would have gained 71-94 metres on you.

Sorry, my last set of calculations were off, i used 1700 for metres in a mile, not 1600 Embarassed

a closing speed of 50mph translates to 22.2m/s meaning the astra would gain between 66.7 and 88.9 in 3 to 4 seconds. Apologies for the cock up.

I would imagine that you where both in the same lane, and both pulled into the fast lane at the same time.

This would make it a 50/50 situation. Since you pulled out at the same time you where half cutting him up, but he was also driving wrecklessly by waiting til he was so close at such a higher speed before pulling out, which would also entail tailgating.
