SSs have small mirrors. How about attach bigger mirrors to your bike?
It was lucky that you didn't get hurt.
Let's be careful of Auto speeders.
There are many rude drivers in non-sports car. Sports car drivers often have better manners than them. Worst is company cargo van.
Don't speed with such CAR! I sometimes feel like screaming
But don't and let them go. |

Really? read again. I was doing 70ish, (national speed limit on the top of the parkway), I looked behind me and there was no-one there. He must have been doing at least 30mph faster than me. 90mph at least makes it his fault....
Anyway, thanks for the support. |
Not disagreeing (you were there) but some cars blend easily. I dont think a car doing only 30 or so faster then you would have suddenly appeared and roared past you in the time it took you to flick over your shoulder, indicate, look again and move. In fact proper life savers should be done at the last possible moment as well.
I have nearly front ended a car when i overtook because he was in a slight dip and in a shade of car identical to the road.
Also if you could tell his car he wasnt going /that/ much faster then you. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

I reckon he pulled out to overtake you without signalling, and never saw you move into the right-hand lane, then figured "i'll make it". Either that or you made a total balls-up.

Not getting into the ins and outs of this one because I wasn't there. But, if you ride on the assumption that all the other traffic on the road is doing the speed limit, you aren't going to last long. A car doesn't just 'come out of nowhere' on a dual carriageway, epecially one straight enough to do 90-100mph in a Vauxhall Astra. He was behind you somewhere, you just didn't see him, a 30mph difference in speed doesn't mean him closing THAT quickly.
For sake of argument lets assume the car behind you was doing 120mph which is about as fast as an Astra will go and you were doing 70. Lets also say you left a good three seconds after your second lifesaver before you started moving across (which to me is too long). So a closing speed of 50mph, in that three seconds (0.0003 hours) the car had moved 0.015 miles or roughly 25 metres.
So, either the car was dropped out of a helicopter or you didn't see it in your mirrors or your two lifesavers even though it was less than 25 metres behind you.

An astra at 120mph is moving at 56.7 m/s, meaning that in 3-4 seconds, he would have covered between 170 and 226.7 metres. If you were travelling at 70mph (33.1m/s), that leaves a closing speed of 23.611 m/s. In that 3-4 seconds, he would have gained 71-94 metres on you.

Sorry, my last set of calculations were off, i used 1700 for metres in a mile, not 1600 a closing speed of 50mph translates to 22.2m/s meaning the astra would gain between 66.7 and 88.9 in 3 to 4 seconds. Apologies for the cock up.
