Same with most bikes.

Make full use of the power available.
On a 2 stroke with a narrow power band you want to make sure you always keep in it - so as you start to slow down, drop down a gear to keep in that power band, so that when you turn the throttle you still have decent power.

Apart from that, the rest is just general riding stuff , also don't ignore 'advanced riding' techniques - a lot can make you faster as well as making you safer!
Search the forum, also look for the following books:

In first gear you need to slip the clutch lots.

In later gears the fun comes from keeping it in the power band Smile.

Not a riding tip as such, but it's very important to keep up religiously with service intervals on your 2stroke bike. Follow the manufacturers guide to what needs doing and when. Do not skimp on maintainence or use cheap/low grade oils and fuels. If the manufacturer says fit a new plug, change the transmission oil, airfilter, fuel filter, and set the oil pump every 2000-3000miles then do it. And if it says throw the piston and rings away at 8-10'000 miles do this too. If you dont neglect the bike and it's maintainence, or try to save money by using cheap non synthetic engine oil, you won't be giving it a chance to break down or blow up, and thus at a price you will maintain excellent reliability. Nearly all 2stroke engine problems are caused by lack of maintainence, neglect, or bodged tuning attempts.

mine is loads better since ive had the clutch fixed.

It has slipped a bit when hitting the powerband for ages. Since its been fixed i get instant power, and i can also get a decent start as i can slip the clutch when pulling away, giving highish revs.

so if you notice any problems get them fixed as the problem is probably worse than you think

then you have the problem of finding a mechanic who will actually do a decent job. but once you find one, life is sweet.

I know it sounds stupid but I'm going to be quite nervous when I take the RD out for the first time. I don't know how fragile the engine is and I don't want to rag it too much. Some of the new parts also need wearing in. I suppose I just got to take it easy for a while til I get used to the power. I heard the front wheel comes up when shifting into 2nd and 3rd. Shocked

i find most of the power 18aprilia is about 10-11rpm and not in the red line as the powerband isnt as good there, i never put mine in the red (still managed to blow it up though)

yea this is very true but when just accerating i find gears 4,5,6 when you change stay in the powerband if you change at about 11000rpm as the earlier ones dont and can be really annoying!lol

just so you know the Aprilia RS 125 red line's at 12,000rpm not 11,000 rpm which is indiacted by the clocks.

Bigger / higher ports, and in turn bigger powervalves to cover the bigger ports, but race spec / GP bikes are still making power at 13-14000rpm, and need pistons every 500km.
