Just wondering how many people have road illegal cans on their bikes that they use on the road? How much trouble can you get in for having one on your bike? I wouldn't mind getting this for my Triumph, but it's marked as road illegal so I probably won't bother. My current can is a Scorpion, but it's not running quite as nice as I would like it do. I would rather get a Triumph can and let Triumph map it properly. I'm guessing it would also knacker up my insurance with this on too. Just wondering how many people out there are taking the risk.

Road illegal cans? Laughing I'll presume you mean race cans. Wink

No idea what kind of penalty you can get, I presume no points anyway. They, the 'polis' might give you a rectification notice or a £30 notice. More if you have a small plate and other mods that they know aren't legal.

I've always had race can's, but don't like my current ones. Look good but too loud when on the move. I like to be heard, just not be a nuisance.

I run an Art pro series2 race can. It is a stainless steel can so can be manipulated easily.

It used to have NOT FOR ROAD USE printed along the top untill i filed it off and polished it up now you cant tell it was there. Therefore i have an illegal race can that is now road legal as far as MOT and police stops are concerned Twisted Evil

My scorpion can's got a removable baffle too. It's far too noisy without the baffle in it. I've drilled some holes in the baffle to remove a mid range dead spot. A bit louder, but not as loud as without the baffle.

Mine came with an "not for rode use" can on it. A copper once told me when he pulled me that it can be up to £500 fine for a non rode use can ? I presume it was true as it was a copper that told me

my RS is loud enough in my view with standard but its a 2t and i cant see the point in a new exhaust when i plan to sell it in the near (ish) future. if i had a 4t though i would defernetly have a can with removable baffles, best of both worlds in my view..

I think that's maybe if you're a repeat offender. First time (I think) you'd get a rectification notice and probably a producer.

BTW, I've got a Akrapovich with "not for road use" stamped in nice big letters on it! Rolling Eyes

I'm assuming by 'can' you mean a silencer?

I haven't got one of them.

Got straight-through drag pipes with a bit of metal hammered into the middle.

And a warrant out for my arrest since 1989 for non-payment of a fine for having a 'defective silencer'

Surely somebody out there has tried the route of not paying a fortune for a silencer they may not need?

Cheers,

Byrnie.

One of the nice things about owning an old bike...

Silencers just were not very good on the "silence" bit.. my replacement silencers are as loud as an almost straight through race can on a ninja 400, yet ive not been stopped in 3 years and the ninja owner is on a monthly basis Rolling Eyes

And because its an 82 then its completely legal Very Happy

But at the end of the day i know if i get stopped theres NOTHING on the bike thats not totaly legal, so they can spin onit Middle Finger Middle Finger

Viper race can with NO markings but it does say on the box, not for road use.

Had 2 race cans on my bikes and never been pulled for it once.

The guy said it was a bit loud but was gonna pass it because he knows why I have it on there Wink

How many boy racers do you see being stopped for having a stupidly loud exhaust?

How many boym racers do you see stopped for sitting in the middle of a housing estate at 12 o clock with there bass really loud keeping every one awake?

Well ive never seen it, or heard of it here. But bikes get stopped quite often from what i understand. Mines totally illegal, has "for road use" on it because i rubbed out the "not"
It is obviously too loud as you can hear it for miles.

Ill just blame it on M1ke and say he did it.

Another question then ...

Those that have a race can, does the insurance company think that you've got a standard can? Has anyone had any problems with a claim after a crash due to having a race can?

Hi

Most of the bikes have standard exhausts, some have non standard legal exhausts. The Bandit has a full Akrapovic system with a removeable baffle and is jetted for the baffle being out. Tends to get run with the baffle in most of the time. I will put up with the worse power delivery and slight loss of power in exchange for not pissing people off all the time.

All the best

Keith

Dracan,

I have a Daytona 600 and have an MHP Titanium Can - this will also fit a TT600.

I took the sticker off the can and it looks like a standard piece of kit. It is handmade and beautifully finished. Bike runs well with the Triumph race tune ECU (free of charge). Makes a lovely sound - quiet at idle and progressively louder the more you rev it. Nice and deep too...

Got tugged by the cops the other day for speeding, but they just checked the bike wasn't stolen and let me go with a caution. They mentioned my smallish plate, but didn't even suspect the can was anything other than standard. I can't rate it highly enough.

I got it from Jack Lilley - have a look on their website. It's about £300

BTW: The Triumph cans are not rated by those who have had them.

I've got a CCC (carbon can company) stainless one, with the twin port exits on my Daytona 600 and when the baffels are out it's really loud but sounds so sweet Thumbs Up
