I’ve had it for sale, on here first https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=58203 since the 23rd August. Since then it’s been in Biketrader for 2 weeks, MCN (still running, 1 week left|) and AdTrader quite a few times as it’s free. But all I’ve had is annoying marketing agency calls. I’ve reduced the price to try and tempt people but still nothing. I don’t want to keep re-advertising it as that’s gonna cost more, both in ad fees and having to drop my price again.

So any ideas what to do? I’ve put another ad in AdTrader and I think I can change my MCN ad, but there come as point where I don’t want to be giving it away. It’s only 8 months old and selling it at the current price would be a kick in the balls, but c'est la vie!!

Is the market just slow at this time of year?

Deja Vu !

I had mine on all the bike sites, biketrader, local paper and ebay. Nothing doing at all.

I put my ad details on here, listened to peoples suggestions, re-advertised on ebay and sold it before the end of the auction.

Price was ALOT less than she was worth, but I needed to sell quickly.

Put your ad up on here and see what people suggest.

Good luck.

Second hand bikes aren't really selling at the moment, it seems.

Add to that, you're trying to sell a nearly-new SV650. Which are available brand new, £1 deposit, 0% finance from Suzuki until the end of September.

Bummer. Not a lot you can do really, except drop the price.

Ebay have a free listing day for motors on Thursday. Get it on there with some nice pictures.
Just be aware of the final fee if it sells though.

i can get one new for less than £4k. i am currently after an sv650s new shape with silver frame in candy blue. i am looking to pay around £2500 over the winter. this may be a bit ambitious, but it gives you a small insite into the buying pshyci at the moment. we want a lot, for not very much. and new prices and offers like those already stated are only helping us in our plight.

good luck tho, and if you get desperate, i could have £2500 waiting for you Razz

also dont be negative, saying things like

You would sell the bike for £3000, Its to be expected that you cannot sell a bike for what its "worth"

I have never sold a bike for what its "worth" I sold my ER-5 for £1200 it was "worth" £1500.

if I was to sell my current bike its "worth" £3000 I would get £2500.

Esp with suzuki doing the 0% finance.

Well I've reduced the price on my last few days worth of Biketrader and MCN web ads, so see how it goes.

Dodsi's right - a bike is only "worth" how much someone is willing to pay for it. I had difficulty selling my 50cc a couple of years back, as I bought it brand new, as many other people had, so a big flood of cheap second hand bikes. Luckily mine was well looked after and sold it in a couple of months Smile

Saturation is the key...... Razz

Tell everyone and everything, there is someone out there looking for YOUR SV650 somewhere

well if you ever do.... Razz
as said before you'll never get "what its worth" even though you should. (maybe £2500 is a little low but hey, you dont get without asking)

ring up the insurance company and say the following

" OMG! My bike has just caught fire and is now completely fucked! "

Tips:

.Make sure you are not caught burning your own bike.....

. Make sure you have insurance Embarassed

£3400 is still a lot for a 6000 mile bike - when for £600 more you can get a brand new one which has two years warranty and is a slightly later model.

As has been mentioned, the market isn't very good, so it may be a case of taking a fair bit lower offer.

That may mean that you don't sell, then (though you should be able to get more than £2.5k).

Unfortunately that's the price you pay for buying new.

Oh and gearboxgeezer, if you've got fire insurance, you've usually also got theft, which is slightly easier to fake and doesn't involve explosions (less fun though Smile ).

Have you tried posting your advert on www.sv650.org , it might be worth a go. As others have said, you will do well to get the price you want for it with the finance on new bikes being so good, I've seen similar bikes go for a fair bit less on the forum above before.

You mentioned selling to go to NZ. Are you going to live over there, or just going for a holiday?

If its just a holiday, even a very long one, I'd be inclined to SORN the bike or lend it to a friend while you are away. A newish SV is one of the worst bikes to be trying to sell at the moment.

Why? you may ask. You can buy an early SV650 for about £1500 with low mileage - circa 10k miles. Thats still only a five year old bike. The new model isn't all that different to the old one, it just looks a little different and has less curves. It doesn't look 2 grand better.
Or if I want new, I can get brand new for about 4k on 0% over 3 years.

You'll get peanuts trying to sell it.

For a little money comparison. If I was to buy your bike for 3300, I'd get your bike for 3300.
However, if I was to buy a brand new one on 0%, £1 down, I could put that £3300 in the bank. Assuming I made 5% interest added yearly on the money, after 3 years it would be worth about £3820.

Just remembered you were Glasgow SV650 before, have you got it on www.sv650.tk which is a similar site especially for our friends in the north. Smile

Better to break it into parts, take the identifiable items (frame with numbers and bits of engine casing with numbers) and either destroy them so that they will never be identified or dump them somewhere the coppers are likely to find them and assume they have been stolen and dumped (round the back of some lockups whatever) as this will improve your case that the bike's been nicked if they find dumped parts. Then keep all the goodies somewhere safe, not in your garage as the coppers might go looking to see how the bike was stored or something. Tell the insurance it was nicked from the street when you were buying hairspray or having a perm, then you get cash from insurance and you then then flog the spare bits on eBay a few months later which will earn you a few bob.

It might affect your future insurance quotes, and it's insurance fraud so don't get caught.

Better idea than burning it though as there is evidence that someone nicked it broken it and dumped the identifiable bits and you get money! Thumbs Up

Matt
