Carbon fibre reeds for NS125, Will it benefit me????

I have an 1988 NS125F with a micron exhaust system and am interested in some carbon fibre reeds, will it make much difference, iv heard its not so much a performance mod but will make it smoother throuhgout the rev range
Is this true?
Can someone point me in the right direction as i cant find them anywhere?

Hi

Next to no difference. On some older bikes they fitted steel reeds and against those there would be an improvement, plus they would be a bit less likely to damage the engine when they failed.

On an NS you will get far more difference by playing with the airbox.

not a lot , but surely will improve the smoothness of the bike due to a better filling of the barrel . it's not necessary to spend more than £25 for that .

What can i do to the airbox then?

Hi

Dump it and replace with a single filter, and rejet to suit. Or failing that drill holes in the airbox (such that you just allow more air to the outer side of the air filter) and again rejet.

I've found since popping the airbox off and replacing with K&N Filter, mainjet had to be upped to 125, and pilot jet had to go up 2 sizes too... Power jet was fine as it was... might not be same for you, but worth bearing in mind... (mine's an 89 NS125R)

i do not recommand to fit a K & N filter , because with the rain , you will get trouble

Not sure on the NS but never had problems in the rain with one on my MBX125.

Only time it was a problem was if you jet washed the bike .

I have already upjetted the main jet to a 120 becuase of the exhaust, and have drilled a few holes in the airbox, the plug colour is good and there is no bogging down under full throttle which im quite pleased about. The midrange though is very lumpy, is there anything i can do to smooth this area out???

Just a bolt in the side of the barell, no power valve unfortunately.

Nope, the NS125F dosnt have this fascility, just a blanking plug, maybe your thinking of the NSR?

UK NS125's don't have the ATAC chamber which is the valve system to which you're referring alains... UK restricted bikes had this system removed and the exit port blocked by a blanking plate on the end of the big bolt mentioned above. Lop the end of this bolt for top end performance, but you sacrifice a LOT of off-the-line pull. If you want to keep some low end pull, leave the bolt alone.

Also, no probs here with k&n on my NS125R in the rain.... got thoroughly drenched several times last week and bike didn't twitch a whisker...

Is there any way i can fit a powervalve to my bike, what things would i need, is it mechanically operated or electronically?

They are mechanically operated. Should be possible to fit all the parts but I doubt it would be cheap to buy them new.

There used to be a gas pressure operated power valve system that you could buy that you welded to the exhaust. Not seen them advertised for about 15 years.
