hiya my engine seems to be rattling on my nc30, it seems to be coming from the rear left cylinder, could this be the valve shims? if so what problems could this cause ?? Confused

Could be loads of things, you can use a long screwdriver to have a listen...

Shims or tappets is possible (what was it last done?) if this is the noise then its SERIOUS problems if you ignore it (engine rebuild + lots of money sort of problem)

You could take it to ahonda dealership and ask them what they thing it is, needs checking out really Sad

If it's a rebuild that's needed you'll prolly find it cheaper to buy a replacement engine instead. Think a full gasket set alone is around the £200 from Honda. Shocked

I ended up replacing my engine as my old one developed a bottom end rattle.

Valves are adjusted on these by means of replacing the shims with different sizes. Hondas rarely need these done in my experience.

If you leave a valve loose, there is a danger it could foul the piston which means game over. Get the engine checked over!
