 |
|
Well this weekend i have finally got the time to try and sort out my bike after my off. replacing bits and bobs and the like. the crash bung got a little bent, see the "Cause" picture and has split the engine mounting bolt which is hollow (effect pic). its only split the bolt where there is a large hex section at the end, as far as i can tell the bolt is actually sound for the important bit. but my question is this i am guessing that the hex part is for when you want to remove the bolt to get the engine out. just wondering how difficult it would be to change this bolt for a new one so that if the engine ever did have to come out it would make it easy rather than having to deal with this if that time comes!
Cheers

Hi
Ouch.
The "bolt" is threaded into the frame. Basically it allows you to adjust the gap between the frome where it mates with the engine. The bit around the bolt is a lock nut for once the clearance is set.
Nasty bit is that I doubt you have anything like enough clearance to remove it without dropping the engine out.
Think R&G sell spares for their crash bungs at fairly sensible prices.
All the best

yep, took a touch out and seen that the bolt does have a lug at the end! doh
so the only way to get it out is through the inside of the frame and there is no way of doing that without dropping the engine out! doh
looks like the bolt stays
