Need some advice

Hi all

Got a bit of a problem. Am respraying my Suzuki GSX600F. Got all the panels off except one. The front mudgaurd is held with 8 allen screws but the buggers won't budge. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Or longer allen keys?

You might even be able to get an allen bit into an impact driver which should crack them out, just be careful as the bits aren't designed for impact use and could shatter (although I have never had it happen). I suppose this depends on if you have room to swing a hammer.

tried both of those. left wd40 on all night but no joy. allen bit no good cos the bottom yolk in the way. thanks fellas

Howz about a rench with a allen key bit? Dont know if you would have the bit but worth a try if you do!

give them several sharp whacks from a hammer, then stick a length of tube over the end of the allen key so you can get mondo leverage.

Cheers bish. Although I did think of that until i got on the floor and noticed the bottom yolk is quite close. Tried the tube idea too. Flipping allen key slipped round. Think I'll just have to spray it while it's still on the bike.

Have you got a torque wrench/long ratchet with a 1/4" shank? If so, go to B&Q and get a Torq set of bits and ratchet screwdriver. Costs about £2.95. In that there is a 1/4" socket. Also in the set is a 4 and 5mm hex bits which fit into the 1/4" socket perfectly.

Attach the two together and you can tighten/loosen hex bolts easily. I've found it bloody impossible to find 1/4" sockets with 1/4" shank except in that set. Even the tool shops and specialists don't have them, unless you buy 10 for £30 or so!

Might want to try a length extension on the ratchet too to get around the depth of the guard

Some great ideas here but in the I got the hump and threw a wobbler. I masked up the front of the bike and sprayed the bloody thing where it was. Nice job job tho. Even if I do say so myself. Thanks all
