 Posted: 20:50 - 07 Nov 2005 Post subject: RESOLVED - CG125 - Bike Sounds funny after adding nuts? |
 |
|
Hi,
Basically, I went to B&Q today and bought a pack of 8mm galvanised nuts and some 10mm nuts with the aim of:
Bolting the exhaust to the swingarm (There are some bolts that looked like they were missing nuts)
and
Bolting a loose thread coming from just before the engine.
Now the bike sounds funny? Theres an audio file at the bottom of this post... Please have a listen!
Here are pics of the nuts I added, can anyone with a CG125 please check and confirm that they have nuts in these locations on their bikes?
Thanks,
Toby

It doesn't sound right to me, but I can't remember exactly which nuts are where. Easy option: take the nuts off and see if it sounds like it should.
One thing though, bolting the exhaust to the swingarm? The swingarm moves, the exhaust doesn't. Snap, crackle pop. There is a large bracket to bolt the exhaust to, also holding the pillion footpeg. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Theres not a day that goes by without you messing something up is there mate?
I have nothing constructive to offer, just thought I'd say you people have said the word "nut/s" so many times, I just went out at 3:10AM - 3 mile round trip - and brought some salted kp's.
Hope you're satisfied. ____________________ Current Bike: nc30 |

B&Q might not be the best place to be buying bolts, cheap and nasy bolts go furry quick and might not be as srtong as they should.. dunno where to suggest but stainless steel is probably a good bet most of the time..
Only reason it might be makeing more/different noise is if you neglected to refit any washers/rubbers e.t.c. obviously to the correct tighness is impotant too!
CG125's are noisey rattely things, not advanced much since they were first manufactured in the 70's (in fact brazilian models aren't as well made as the jap produced models) as long as you keep your oil level right + chain in good order then any rattles are unlikely to be anything to worry about

Ideally you would be using nuts and bolts with the number 8.8 stamped on top of them. This indicates it is quite a strong nut/bolt (something to do with the tensile strength of the steel I think. Anyone?). 5.4 is just about acceptable, 12.9 is very strong, I have bent allen keys in 12.9 set screws. I had a Russian bike with 3.2s on it once. They were like cheese. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
