Ok, ever since I started riding my 50 to college (2 odd years ago) I began to learn quickly that there is a lot of biased consideration for cars (parking/security).

The M/C bays at my first college were often parked on by cars. Easy solution I thought, park on the pavement next to the M/C bay. The fucking cheeky bit was when the college security put notices on the bikes saying we couldn't park on the pavement. Yet next to our bikes were cars parked on the M/C bay, did they get a warning, did they fuck! Me and R4nger got extremely pissed off and wrote a letter to the principle. I imagine the security staff got a slapping, soon after the cars got clamped and £5 fine, no cars park on the M/C bays to this day, job done.

Super markets etc, being a noob on my 50 a few years back I went to tesco and went looking for an M/C bay, none to be found. So I parked in a car bay (about 50miles from the shop door). After walking about 20 meters from my bike I realised no fucker is going to see that reversing into the bay. So I dragged my bike back to the very edge of the bay so drivers could see it when coming down the isles of parking spaces. I've seen car drivers swerve into a bay thinking it was empty but to find a trolley or a mini parked in it. A small M/C bay at super markets wouldn't go a miss (100 hundreds of im a cow with 5 kids bays). Now that I've matured in the motorcyclist world I just park my Ducati right up by the door, Middle Finger erm.

My 2nd college. This college is meant to be leading in motorcycle's. Yet the M/C parking was some wonky paving slabs (great for a ducati stand I tell yee, not!), hardly convincing that this college knows about motorcycles. Everyone brought it up in tutorial and the lecturers agreed with us, they said it's about to get better (new building work). So what happens it gets fucking dug up and is now being made into some garden! At the moment we have to park right the way behind the college, it has shit all security and we keep catching the builders playing with our bikes.

And to top it up the builders at my house just blocked my bike in the garage since 2pm today! There not back till tomorrow, spank fucking tastic! I want to go to the pub! Not to drink but to meet some mates before some of you bitch.

You can see where supermarkets are coming from though. Anyone with any sense goes shopping in a car or travels there on the bus and gets a taxi home, just how much shopping can you carry on a bike.

They are always going to give preferential treatment to people doing a big shop and spending loads of money.

I use to work at Sainsbury's there were 5 bikers just from staff. The most thing that annoys me is when they give us an M/C bay ands it's the most shittiest condition bit of concrete they had, it's normally out of view from the public aswell. Great for theives!

Erm, most people can fit more shopping on their bike than they are willing to carry home on the bus (or maybe that’s just me).

FWIW, all my local supermarkets have clearly marked bike bays close to the front of the shop.

Morrison's have motorcycle bays, which i found rather courteous, considering most shoppers use cars.

Parking in college is a bitch, i'm suprised there isnt an incentive or law to make it so car parks have motorcycle bays at their front. This would encourage more motorcycle users, and reduce congestion.

Somebody parked in the M/C bay in Tesco the other day, so I parked right beside it and blocked access to their door.

Came back 15 minutes and car was still there so I star to write a note, rather horrible note mind with the word 'bint' in it and just as I tear it off the pad, a wee old woman and her minder come up and the wee grannie looks so puzzled and worried how on earth she was going to get past my bike to put away the shopping. Didnae have the heart to shout so jsut mentioned it would be nice if she didn't park there.

"Oh but all the disabled spaces were taken up...."

Rolling Eyes

Cannae win.

each to their own. I've never driven a car since I passe my test, except to have some motorway lessons, and then ten hours of refresh lessons. I hate driving. Sad

Most of my local supermarkets have motorcycle parking bays, and those who don't haven't complained to me about parking in the cycle bays. My bike takes up the space of two bicycles perhaps, but it can't be put in half the places that a bicycle can.

Throwovers, a tailpack and a rucksack allow me to carry enough shopping for a week if I need to. Thumbs Up

Why don't you just park in a car space at the supermarket? It's not like there's usually a shortage of them...

For supermarkets, I always park by the front door or somewhere near, preferably under shelter. Never had any trouble (obviously, be sensible and don't park blocking the whole path or in the middle of the trolley area.

Because even if it'll take me more effort to park in a bicycle parking space than it would to park in a car one and walk, I'll do it anyway, just to be awkward. Laughing

(That and the fact that the bicycle parking in Morrisons is walled in and roofed over, which makes your exhaust note sound stupendous when you start up. Twisted Evil I'm just a child at heart. Whistle)

A car which parked in the bike parking place at uni was attacked with a padful of paper bearing rude messages, post-it notes and newspapers. It was wet so everything just clung on. Twisted Evil Whistle

With increasing fuel prices more people will switch to two wheels. It's about time people started to cater for us.

I go shopping on my GPZ500S, it's quite amusing parking the bike in a cage space, taking a trolley load of shopping to it and managing to get everything stuffed in the bike. Rucksack, tank bag, Givi E460 topbox and panniers. Job done Thumbs Up

I park on the path near the door at supermarkets.

As for your garage. Just move the bricks.

Don't know where you live, but both my local Tesco's and Sainsburys has dedicated bike parking areas. Plus my local town has dedicated
free bike parking in the town centre. (plus its covered and also its next to the police station).

Not everywhere is bad for bikers.

Thing is the town I am from is Halifax, but because its sh*t for parking etc, I always go to Huddersfield.

I've no idea if my local ones cater for bikes, i wouldn't even consider going shopping on the bike when i've got 2 cars. (Btw i live just a couple of miles away at the top end of Thornton)

I squash my fish and chips because i have to shove them down my coat. I wouldn't even like to think of carrying a full trolley load but i suppose if the bike is someones only transport then they have to make do.

Statistics say that of the people who design car parks, most will use a car but only a few will ride a bike so helping bikers out probably doesn't even cross their mind.

At my local Tesco's, I park blatantly right in front of the doors. No one's said a thing yet and I've done it god knows how many times now.
