Scariest moment yet :(

Combination of an HGV driver being a blind fool, and me not paying proper observation.

Coming onto the Liverpool Airport A road from Warrington today, on the roundabout just before the A Road, I was taking my exit when I saw a lorry driver on the exit after the one I was travelling from, he slowed down so I carried on to my exit.

Saw something out of the corner of my eye just before I finished leaving the roundabout and its THIS DAMN LORRY about a metre to the left of me travelling at top whack... Had to whack the throttle right open... Pretty sure that if I didn't I would of been hit and killed... Wouldn't of liked to be in a car in that situation either, he wouldn't of seen a giant neon pink schoolbus (Didn't see him look, just slow down, must of pulled out straight after that so he obviously didn't look)

Obviously not all his fault though, I shouldve noticed him not looking, or not completely stopping and aborted the turn

I don't really see that being his fault.

lorrys are always bastards on roundabouts, not all their fault like you say, but they do tend to realise how much road presence they have and expect others to get out of the way. Also, they're reluctant to stop or slow down because it takes them so long to get going again.

sometimes on roundabouts its wise to abort mission and go round again, lucky you were safe

my brother had an accident just after he started driving, he was turning right at a smallish roundabout and there was a hgv in the left lane going straight on... the lorry cut straight across the roundabout and took his bonnet out. The driver just kept going.

Lol, yeah I'm alright now... My girlfriend seems to think I would've been safer in a car though... Although I almost deffo would've been hit and killed if I didn't have a bit more acceleration.

I had a similar incident where the car (Old man in Daewoo, I couldnt make it up if I tried) nerfed me just as I was about to go down the slip road. Should have seen it coming and gone round but inexperience meant I didnt. I tried wacking open the throttle and almost got away with it, if it wasnt for the pesky old man. A bigger bike WOULD (there is no doubt whatsoever) have covered me and got me out of the way.

So perhaps dont give up. Having near misses I'm afraid is going to be a common occurance. My dad is still adamant that someone try's to pull out on him at least once a week. Defensive/reserved riding means he can avoid it all the time. No crash in 25 years.

I'm guessing from your sig you've been riding 3 months? to be honest, you're lucky to have gone so long without a near miss. I had a car do a u-turn in front of me on my 3/4 riding lesson...

but at the end of the day, you did see him and you did miss him... just keep doing that and you'll be fine

or be practical about it... get some lessons and your test done, maybe do some advanced training. It might make you feel safer

I take it it happened something like shown in the attachment? It's probably something that happens to everyone at least once when they're learning. It does shit you up a bit, but that's good, because you're not going to forget the lesson in a hurry.

It's a horrible roundabout, It's in Widnes - People might know it...

But you can see here the blue dots are him, basically pulled out of that exit to take the same exit as me, but the fact they are both so close meant I had little time to react.
