Best bet is to stick a 650 or africa twin engine in, both should pretty much slot in.

lol, asks about filter and exhuast and is told to a slightly more tricky engine swap Smile

Im not sure if this is G's sense of humour or he is assuming everyone knows how to do an engine swap.

Funny either way.

I dont know about this bike, but at a guess I would say filter and exhaust would give you 5-10% power increase.

G's plan would give quite a bit more Smile

Africa Twin is about the only decent thing you can do to a bros.

If there was an easy way to make it go faster then it would have been done in the first place!

I've done a few engine swaps, but don't know how to correctly setup carbs correctly to compensate for changes made to exhaust/air filter.
Incase you don't know, unplug everything, take engine out, put new engine in, plug everything in again.

If nothing else, the dyno time for the new filter/exhaust is going to cost, for not very big gains at all.

Bros 650 isn't exactly a massively powerful lump either, but should be enough to justify the difference.

Sorry G but not that easy on the Bros if you go the africa twin route.

Ok first up for the 400 you can fit a K+N filter which will do absolutly nothing to increase power.

Two brothers do a really nice race pipe for the 650 which will fit easily.

Big bore to 650 using BROS/NTV pistons. The heads are the same so a good increase in power. You may need 650 cams, can't remember if they're the same as the 400 ones.

Once up to 650cc add Africa twin cams for more power.

Swop in an Africa Twin engine. Sounds easy as all the engine mounts meet up but thats the easy bit. The ignition is so very different on the Africa twin that you need ALL the engine electrics including pick ups, CDI, coils and wiring loom. Easiest way to do it is split the loom in 2 parts. One loom for the engine and one for the rest of the bike. Use the 650 carbs and a two brothers exhaust and a Dynojet kit or RC30 carb internals from the HRC race kit. Some people run a stage 3 kit but in my experience it loses to much bottom end.

If you want a bit more power rip off the rear cylinder, it has a very restrictive 90degree outlet on the exhaust port and swop in a front cylinder but you will have to modify the frame and rear exhaust header.

Never tried it myself but I think the pistons from a PC800 might also be persuaded to fit but you would probably need to reline the cylinders and bore the crank case mouths.

You can also do the usual porting work of course and it comes down to how much money do you want to spend.

aaah someone else wanting more from their 400 bros. Smile

I too am on a 33bhp license, although i'm not too fussed about more power, i.e. 650 engine etc. What i want is to make more noise! Does anyone have a 2 into 1 collector? if i can lay my hand on that i could be well on my way!

Sorry, heard it done quite a few times and thought it was.

Bang for buck I'd have still thought that a 650 engine would make much more sense that tarting the 400.

Agreed. The only difference between the 650 and 400 is the pistons (sort of).
