My throttle cable snapped today miles away from home but luckily enough beside Halfords. The nice hallfords people let me borrow their tools and i only had to pay for the vice grips to fix it. What do you think of my boj job Laughing i locked the vice grips to the end of the cable then tie wrapped the vice grips to my throttle grip. this got me home safely. Is there a bcf bodging award ?

Good bodge. I'm way ahead of you though Wink

Most throttle cable breakages occur either by the nipple pulling off or a break just below the nipple. If you are like me, you have a couple of solderless nipples floating about in the lining of your leather jacket. If you don't, you need two jubilee clips to get you going again (always used to be some on fork gaiters). Simply clamp the cable outer to the yoke or top of the fork leg and clamp the inner to the OUTSIDE of the twist grip, use as normal.

Just realised how insulting i sounded, i meant the bodge was worth of those done by Scrapheap Challenge legends such as Bowser, not that your bike was fit for the heap lol. Bowser would be proud!

For future reference. Hein Gericke sell a thing called a 'nippelpannenset' which is a small tin containing three lengths of control cable with nipples on one end and a selection of solderless nipples to go on the other. It is no bigger than an airgun pellet tin and can be used to repair any of your control cables.

A handy thing to keep under your seat!

A true bodger only needs 3 tools in their kit:
Cable ties.
Mole grips.
A big hammer.

You've managed to use 2 of the 3 in your bodge, tell me at some point you whacked something with a hammer and i can die knowing my life is complete.

Cable ties; the hallmark of a quality repair.

(Seriously, top marks for ingenuity!)

Once used vice grips to stop my radiator leaking on a van, it lasted for months. If it ain't broke, dont fix it. (if the bodge holds)

Looking at the picture again, you could use the grips as a makeshift clutch of brake leaver if you break one.

I have cable ties holding my belly pan on !

Does that count as a bodge?

or is it just that i can't be bothered to make some brackets?

I gotta say they very strong as they still held it on even when the bike was sliding down the road on its side.

Dude that's just fucking stupid. That aint a bodge, and even if it was bodging is only big and clever if there's actually a point to it.

Why didn't you do what everybody else does and just stick a few bricks under the engine?

What can Gaffer tape do that a cable tie can't?
Thinking about it, a true bodger only needs the cable ties and the mole grips, the hammer is made redundant by the fact that the mole grips can be used for whacking things until they 'fit'.
