just got in from my interesting commute home, and need to share a stupid mistake so that some others don't fall into the same trap now the nights are getting darker.
i get off the main road (A23) and join some twisties to get back to where i live. at the end of the slip road i encounter a car faffing about and sit behind them waiting for them to go. in the end they make a move and i follow, they realise once in the complete dark they haven't got there main beems on and are driving very slowly. i think feck to this its better to be ahead of them as god know what they are going to do (sudden turns). i know there is a straight ahead i can take the car on, so line myself up see a car coming the opposite way but still think i can make it. nail it, only to find mid manovour, level with the car that the oncoming car is closer that i thought, oh shite this is going to be close. manage to get in the left hand lane with what seems like feck all to spare.
the purpose of telling you this is...

Arrow you can't accurately judge distance in the dark
Arrow if you have two bikes of different powers remember that! (on the ninja i would have cleared it no probs)
Arrow i had made the decision to pass on the straight before seeing what the situation was like. saw it as a must rather than an oppertunity! Rolling Eyes

lesson learned, this is my first winter of commuting so steep learning curve. just be extra carful about the information you take in from around you its probibly not accurate in the dark. Also sorry to some car driver out there who nearly had a head on, probibly now thinking fecking bikers. Embarassed

I can't overtake anything - it's just suicide on a scooter.

I also have a lesson, carry a clear visor, i forgot to put mine on my helmet before, and now i have a soggy, cold chin. I imagine this to be how homosexual inuits feel...
