Keeping a cruiser outside all year??

Hi all

Due to me living in a terrace house the only storage method I have is to keep my bike in the backyard with a raincover, although if the funds allow I may build some sort of permanent canopy. What are the benifits to storing a bike in a garage other than the obvious security benifts??

Bearing in mind that my bike is a cruiser with lots of chrome do you think this is a good idea + what measures could I take to insure that no damage is done? Im new to this whole biking thing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

My dad owns a Yamaha Virago, he has had it scince around this time last year. He keeps his outside, under a raincover and chained up. The chrome is quite pitted in some places, and the controls are rusting slightly. The downpipes are also a bad target on cruiser type bikes. You should be ok if you give the offending areas a quick wipe before covering it

Garages are warm, bikes are dry, bikes are secure, bikes are happy.

If your bike is wet and you put it in the garage it will dry and stay dry.

You can work on your bike in a a garage.

Also for the car, the garage is warmer and thus you don't never have to scrape off ice off your car.

silicone spray the chrome parts, or vasoline if you are not using it that much, especially on the forks, i have a virago 1100 and i spray silicone spray all over it, except the seat, did that once to shine the seat up and i got seriously nut crushed
