Well off it went about 20 minutes ago. my zxr 400 is gone to the shop to be made slow (aka restricted). I hate uk laws, its so unfair u pay all this money, take a test thats as hard as a car test, and your restricted to 33 bhp, when some little cager can go get in a aston martin that rich mummy brought him at 17 and go around doing 200 mph. Life sucks, and for this reason alone i want to move to America. I got a bike because i love riding and everything, but i wanted something thats going to accelerate like a scooby, now i have a 125 with a lot more weight Sad

England sucks!

there arnt many 17-19 year olds in those type of cars
however theres a hell of a lot more 17-19 bikers on the road
the law sucks, if you dont like it break it
i do, the risks are there take it or leave it

I, that is what might be on the cards, i swear i heard some where that these restrictors happen to fall out of lots of bikes. Rolling Eyes
I think they might do on mine too.
But thats to be considered.
I guess its not more illegal then me riding around with a 70 cc bore on my 50 on a cbt.

Im restricting it for the certificate for insurance proof and as im starting to ride in the winter, i think its a wise move to have as little power at the moment as the slower im going in winter the less chance i have of coming off. not that its going to be all that slow it should still do 110 odd so im told.

They will be coming out, its been decided for ages now, its just a matter of when.

It doesn't have to be restricted if you don't want it to be. Twisted Evil

My 500 has been restricted from June. Restrictors coming out next year whenever the weather brightens up a bit.

Hmmm, to be fair, the certificate don't mean that much, also how much are you paying to have that peice of paper?

Ash T has the restrcitors for my bike so if i ever needed to, i'd whack them in and get it dynod for £25. Much cheaper than a certificate. Owning the certificate also does not mean the bike is still restrcited which is a bit stupid as well.

I would love to know which insurers want proof of restriction. Even in a crash, there's no real proof as such. It's near impossible to prove as there's so many ways to restrict a bike. At least, it's what a crash investigator told me.

They aren't that powerful you have to be a fanny to fall off because of the power, even in winter.

Take it slow, if you want them out drop me a line and it can be arranged. Twisted Evil

Too late now but...

You can use a dyno readout as proof of 33bhp restriction

Find the right dyno operator and they can set the drum weight higher/lower or not open the throttle fully, that way your readout reads no more than 33bhp, its allot cheaper and stops those FI international scam artist cunts getting any more money.

TELL THE SHOP YOU WANT ALL OF THE ORIGINAL PARTS BACK WITH THE BIKE, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL THEY KEEP THEM OR OTHERWISE LOOSE THEM

From what i've heared the restriction on the zxr isn't all that bad, it will still top 100 and pish allover a scooby if ridden properly..

I agree the law is stupid and shit, not suppiseing its so widely dissregarded.

i dont think my bike is even going to be close with just a dyno run as standard.
I have a full scorpion racing system, k&n air filter and dyno jet kit.

I am going to take them out soon. Just want to get used to it first.

Restrictors are good, you're behind a much more powerul machine now, it's probably best that you don't hop straight on it and have it rip your arms off. See the Brands Hatch thread, with Yoko talking about the R6.

400's are fairly docile below 10,000rpm, and you're not going to get above that by accident.

I agree with wave, you pays your money or you take the (negligible) risk.

Thats a good thread, thanks kath. I suppose the sensable thing to do would be to keep them in. But hey im not sensable. Its not so much not being able to do 140 mph that pisses me off, because its the isle of wight and you cant do much more than that any ways. Its that fact im loosing half my bikes power because of my age. How do they know i cant handle full 60 bhp. At the end of the day it comes down to maturity levels. My friend rides a 50 cc and i ride a 50 cc, im more mature then him on the roads yet were the same age. Riding a 1000 cc is all about how mature you are, you dont have to be rossi to ride a 1000cc, if your sensable enough to not try an take corners at 100 mph and not to go racing people then why can you not handle 1000cc.

As to when my restrictors fall out is to be decided.
