Phone around and get a cheaper quote from elsewhere.

There's plenty of other insurance companies that will quite happily take less money off you to get your business.

this is bollocks, phoned Motorcycle direct (current people) Ebike insurance and bennetts, all wanting more money on my current bike.

Is it worth saying I have loads of security? and claiming I have done advanced motoring courses (ones without certificates)?

Got to get the premium down.

Firstly MC Direct, Bennetts and Ebike aren't the be all and end all of bike insurers.

Grab the yellow pages and call every single one, then get a list of the lowest and pitch them against each other.

Lying about security devices is totally up to you. Say it, and the bike gets nicked then you're firmly shafted. Same with the advanced courses, that could technically invalidate your insurance which means brushes with the law may become interesting...

Firstly, I'd strongly recommend you NOT lying to insurance companies - they just wouldn't pay if they you claimed and discovered untruths about you or the bike! Shocked

Secondly, how much more are they charging you? Are there any changes (however small) in your circumstances compared to last year? For example have you picked up some points, moved house, started smoking, made a claim or changed job? There are loads of factors that can change the 'risk' that consequently raises the premiuim you pay.

i got a biketrader for my RS and ended up paying £30 less than i did for my 50cc moped Shocked quite strange as TPO, just ring around, they were all the same then got one that was £300 lower and when i rang back again they lowered it a further £80 without me even asking! Shocked was great!

Dodsi, my child, remember you upgraded from the er5 to the bandit for only £20. To think it would have been cheaper than your original policy & £20 is madness!

Although you're my hero for finding the bargains that you do so I understand you'll be able to barter them down a bit!

Same bike insured for the whole year last time?

Usual answer though - call /every/ company in the back of biketrader, may find it a fair bit cheaper than you had it in the first place.

Happens all the time mate, don't let it get you down, prices don't realy come down at best they stay the same.

I've had my car license now 17 years (im 34), 10 years no claims, it doesn't ever really go down, it just sort of stays the same.

When I bought my CG, the insurance didn't change when I past my test, its all about risk to them, its nowt personal.

ie someone 2 streets away might have been burgled, that puts you in a higher risk area.

I had the same stress this week when I enquired about insuring another car and was told I would have to start again ie I could only use my no claims on 1 car, there was an exception, if me and my wife had no claims or points between us in the last 5 years they could do something..... Yeahh right

No I went from a 2001 ER-5 too a 2004 bandit 600.

Cost £15.75 to upgrade in the year which made my premium go from £252 too £267.

was hoping for a similer figure this year but they want over £400, as to most companies.

However!!!!

I intend on ringing everyone.

Why don't you insure yourself on a low classed bike again and upgrade? I wouldn't but may yield a similar result.

How much more are they asking for and what level of cover are you after?

Mmmm Thinking I think the reason it is higher is that there are more Bandits around the ER5's...consequently more claims on that bike. Also I would humbly suggest that ER5s are a bit slower and less expensive to fix and possibly less desirable to thieves.

Good luck with the Premuim Search and let us all know how you get on...

How much of your policy had elapsed when you upgraded? Obviously that £15.75 wasn't for the whole year?

Adding £140 is a bit steep though. Confused

July - december the £15.75 counted for.

I really should be more clear and specific when posting.

Sometimes they do take the piss. My renewal came through for £279 fc with a £600xs from CN.
After calling other companies the best price I could get was £241 with breakdown etc included. Phoned CN and asked if they could do anything with the price. Needless to say the price came down to £240 with a £450xs and protected no claims thrown in aswell.
I was toying with the idea of going TPFT for the winter but thought better of it, just in case. I could have got that for £89. Shocked

Just phone around and tell the truth, lieing for insurance may lead to bigger problems further down the line, if you hit something they will do anything to not have to pay.
As a 20yo student on a hornet 600 i paid 350 tpf+t, thats with unlimited millage, rideing other bike, EU cover... load of other stuff. Just ring round and play your best quotes off against each other.
