Well today my bike got it's track fairings fitted ready for Snetterton on Monday.

Massive thanks to Davo who gave up his Saturday evening to help (when I say help I mean "do" while I try and help) even after spending his day sorting his R6 out Thumbs Up

Apologies for the quality of the pics but they are from my phone.

Here she is in her normal clothes

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/baldgit/Image000.jpg

And showing off her naked bum

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/baldgit/Image002.jpg

And here the slag is virtually naked

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/baldgit/Image006.jpg

And here she is wearing her nice new tracksuit

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/baldgit/Image009.jpg

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/baldgit/Image008.jpg

And here's the hero of the day copping a feel

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v619/baldgit/Image007.jpg

Fingers crossed for Snetterton

The left side still to go on - need to cut the fairing for that one. Got pretty late so will be doing the finishing touches tomorrow.

Looks good. Hell of a hassle for a trackday though. Are you going to do it every time?

The grass has been far too well looked after for that. It looks ideal for a larger-ridden BBQ followed by prison-rules 5-a-side football! Laughing

Joe, get back, quick! They're planning on raiding your garden Laughing

Looks cool, like you said it'll serve the purpose of keeping your road fairings shiney.

Get out there and have a blast!

Though I must say I think you should rig it up with lights and paint it green and leave it on with road fairings, its a really nice shape.
Also what phone is that, the pics are good.

There's a big debate about the use of crash mushrooms on track - they can cause bikes to flip when they hit the grass.
I definitely haven't been at all impressed with the performance of the R&Gs I've used on track in the most part; though it does depend on the specific design used.

It's a risk, but I think the advatages by far outweigh that risk. I've seen loads of bikes that have been saved from considerable damage by the R&Gs and despite scare mongering stories of bikes flipping I've never actually seen one.

Crash bungs on my GSX-R saved me from having to buy an entire set of new fairings and a new swingarm.

also depends on the way that you crash.

In the times I've crashed with R&G bungs, they've either bent in a way that could have damaged fairings anyway or often the bung has come out of it's 'holder' bit leaving the metal bit offering little protection (where they've used such a design is used.)

Still a lot better than some other designs I've seen, though.

R&G's are designed to protect in different ways depending on the situation. They are fantastic for saving expensive repairs to panels in very low speed slides or if you drop your bike. If you come off at speed the idea is not so much to save your panels but to protect your engine and help to ensure when you pick it up its still rideable. It is for this reason that at speed you tend to find the bolt bends (as it is designed to) to protect the energy being transmitted through the mushroom to the frame and writing the bike off.

At the end of the day there is no perfect solution, but the R&G's are about as close to it as you can get.

Steer clear from lesser brands such as dhm - too stiff and will bend or break mounting point

Unfortunately R&G's have a habit of mangling their mounting points when they bend back and twist.

There's a lot of talk about design of the actual bung, but at the end of the day the bungs can only protect the area they're situated over.

On some bikes, such as the ZXR400 and Thundercat, an R&G won't do anything to protect the engine.

Half the problem is that some people buy a set of crash bungs and expect them to miracle a magic bubble around the bike when they crash! Laughing

I've seen cases where the bung bending at low speeds has damaged the fairing. Now maybe it's not as much damage, or maybe you've got to drill a bigger hole, but either way it doesn't seem to great when you consider the cost of the bung.
Also, as I've said, seems that it can damage the threads, especially after repeated crashes.

For protecting the engine a CF engine cover protector seems to do a pretty good job, I'd say.

The bungs on my current race SV (pic here) seem to have done a pretty good job. Ok, they could possibly cause frame damage if they landed on them from a height - but then the frame may well be damaged as well.
They've been solid enough to not damage anything else from a load of low sides.
However a soft enough plastic to deform a littlle and wear away while sliding. Definitely handled themself much, much better than R&Gs on another SV I have.
