Well, this didnt go as planned and my dad went kinda mad!!

I got an email the other day with graphs showing how many bikers had died etc over the past years! What he hoped to achieve by this I do not know but anyway he didnt take it well. My mum on the other hand seems ok ish about it. My nan cried and thinks I am going to die a horrible nasty death now!

Ah well, anyone else had a bad experince telling there folks?

What do you ride? I live in Warrington (Kinda near St Helens Razz )

I'm jealous that you're so close to Millenium Motors! Smile

I was 33, so no, not much they could say.

Didn't help that my cousin lost a leg on a bike.

Saying that my fathers generation all had bikes long before they had cars, both dad, uncle etc.

Saying that they always say they had bikes cos they couldn't afford cars.

---------

Oh bloke I sold my CG 125 too, hadn't told his mother either (we left the bike in the family garage), apparently when he bought his last car (which didn't have a roof), she didn't talk to him for a week.

buy some cotton wool and some selotape and then take it to them and ask them if they would wrap you up in it,,
could have bought a plane, ,a fast car, a bycicle, a gun,,,
bloody hell, they live in the dark ages,,
my dan whinged and moaned about if you were living with me you wouldnt have a bike,,
i said,, no im not living with you and yeah i have abike,, wasnt too chuffed about my 500 cc bike after i did my das,, when he saw my 1200 he was very worried,, i took him to town on it so he didnt have to get stuck in traffic and he complained about me going too fast, i stuck to the speed limits religiously,
told him i make my own choices in life,

if your dad wants to send you that crap, statisticly your more likely to die walking down the stairs to answer the telephone or something,,

My parents weren't exactly over the moon when I did my CBT and then bought a brand new Aprilia RS125, but after an initial bit of moaning they learned to live with it. Just show them that you can be responsible and ride carefully and I'm sure they will come around eventually.

It's your life not their's. Respect your parents concern's but inform them that you have made a choice and are willing to accept any consequences that may come of it, that is assuming you are.

Edit: Not had bad expereinces concerning my parents as my dad rides all year round and my mum goes pillion alot. She also rides a 100cc scoot for little trips and to/from work.

Hi

Father and step mother didn't mind at all.

With my mother, telling her was the only time in my life when I have seen someone doing the cartoon lost for words act. For about a minute she just opened her mouth to say something, then changed her mind and closed it again, repeatedly.

If you are feeling sarky, send a graph back to your dad of how many people have beem killed in cars.

All the best

Keith

Email him back this picture and tell him you have a mortal terror of being trapped inside a burning car.

In all seriousness, you are 25, they'll get over it.

my parents went a bit mad when i bought a 600cc sports bike before id even done my cbt Smile

but i got my test passed a month later and all was good til i dropped it then my parents went mad again Sad

strangely though its not cos its dangerous its more the expense and the large amount of bike bits in the dining room that they object to! Mr. Green

my parents kind of encouraged me to get a bike Shocked as a car is so expensice (insurance, lessons) it made sense a bike as cheaper and need to get around.

agree to do your test so you'll be safer on the road, this may help Thumbs Up

Never forget the look on my mums face when i had the RS125 delivered, i forgot to tell he it looks a bit faster than my moped!! Laughing she likes it now though!

Anyways, you only got a YBR125, isnt like a CG? cant go mad over that surly?

my parents told me if I brought a bike I would need a new place to live !

They did me a favour as I brought a car and crashed it several times a year whilst street racing and driving like an idiot ,on a bike I would be dead !

I'm far more sensible now and realize that I'm not indestructible ,have also learnt to read the road and expect the unexpected !

Respect your body you only get one !

When I got the ped they didn't really care, as it was restricted, and 'only until you get a car'. Then I say I'm after a 125, my older brother is saying 'how much have you saved so you can kill yourself?' all the time. Laughing

My mum's pretty good about this stuff, when I said I wanted to get my DAS done and get a 600, I toyed with her a bit.

'How fast do you think it goes?'
'I don't want to know'
'You do - about 170mph'
'Oh Christ'

Id always loved bikes as my dad always had bikes. I had always said I wanted a bike from when I was about 5. About 4 months before my 17th birthday my mam asked if I had started looking for one yet and that she would go halfers on the CBT and pay the insurance for my birthday present when I did get one. Bet that didnt happen to many people!

My Mum and Dad both ride/rode so they didn't mind one bit when I said I wanted a bike over a car. They were super helpful in fact and I'm very grateful for it. My mum swapped her Yamaha XJ900 for a DT125LC for me (she didn't like the XJ anyway), they paid for my CBT, riding lessons, test(s Embarassed) and even the first years insurance!

I'm on my own now but I sure as hell wouldn't be where I am now if I'd of had to of paid for all of that myself.

Who would be scared to tell there folks?? You guys turn weirder every fuckin week. Sam, you were just nearly killed time to get a car right? Nope, I want a bike so that I can transform it to a track bike later in the year. Oyh ok son if ya really want.

Was the jist of a convo I had upon my recent brain heamorrhage and broken shoulder/broken and pinned hand. Just stop being a tart and tell ya parents.

My dad wanted me to get another CBR6RR if I got back on a bike, but claim pending plus 18 years old = no insurance quotes worth it!

No problems here, my mum was a bit nervous about me getting one but she was won over.

My dad bought most of it for me and lent me the rest, letting me pay it off over a as long as I want. They couldn't really tell me it's not safe etc, as my dad has got a ZX-9R and a ZRX 1100 in the garage Mr. Green .

My mum used to always tell me to ring her etc when I was out at first (after my CBT) but she's not really as bothered now (although she does still worry I think).

Well I did it the chickens way.
Mum went on holiday, and when she was away I bought it Smile when she came back and looked in the garage, her first comment was how tidy the garage was. shes just glad I got a 125, not some kind of superbike, but she does like to moan about the fact the garage now stinks of 2T., cant win em all Razz

my mum hates it, my dad 'hates' it cos my mums does.

secretly he encouraged it as he is a rider himself and loves having a working bike about again.
