Make sure you have enough front end grip on the surface.

Make sure it aint gonna spit any bits of grit onto anything behind you (eh, goose, Confused ). Just stop occasionaly.

When I first learnt to donut I got the tyre down to the carcass in several places, with large chunks of rubber missing (biggest about the size of a £5 note. Still was ok to ride it home carefully.

They take longer than you'd think to wear down.

If you're doing a burnout, make sure it is with your rear tyre rather than the clutch. Dump the clutch, don't pussyfoot about slipping it or anything or you'll have things far more expensive than an already dead rear tyre to replace.

Wet metal would be ideal for doing it on, if you fancy trusting the front to grip properly. Wet tarmac is probably your best bet, other than on grass/ mud/ gravel.

As said the tyres can take alot of abuse before they are totally worn...

A few months back a load of us from the Ninjas site were at Chelsea Bridge with a guy we know from Performance Bikes mag, he was testing the new CB1300 and to cut a long story short it was about 3am and he was on the pavement doing burnouts while the guy took photos for the mag, there was smoke everywhere, the tyre was melting yet he still rode the 100miles or so home! And he was doing it for a fair old while! lol

I put my back wheel on grass before and front on tarmac, managed a 65mph burnout in 3rd gear. My tyre was full of mud when i finished and it made a huge hole in the grass. Very Happy

That's the safety way to do it. Thumbs Up

Last time i did a burnout-i got a puncture a few days later-so it costs a lot!

As someone said:

1. In 1st gear, hold front brake and clutch in.
2. Push down front end of bike (get as much weight on the front to make the back light.
3. Dump the clutch-dont fuck about- just let it go quickly and you'll feel the bike start to struggle with you. When this happens-dont let go of the brake!
4. Eventually you will smell the rubber being burned! Razz

Do it properly ya pussies.

You dont need to get the back on something low friction,m if you do that you wont get any smoke.

See THIS clip. If i wanted to destroy the tyre i could have kept going for hours.

Im just trying to get used to rolling (i keep accidentally dipping the clutch... Confused which is annoying, but i WILL manage it properly soon) burnouts now, but stationary are easy.

Best thing ive learnt, is stand up to take the weight off the back, lean forward, hold front brake, press it down to make sure it grips, and then rev and dump clutch. Bingo.
