Roiiight, im thinking of putting together a cheap bike cam for a laugh. Basicly ive got an old digital camera that no one uses anymore. Ive already got the rechargables and im planning on buying a bigger SD card for it (plenty of action Cool ). BUT ive got a few queries:
According to the PC, it records at 7fps: is this fast enough?
Will the cam be able to cope with vibrations? (dont care if it breaks)
Where is the best place to mount it?
How is the best method of mounting it?

7fps is pretty poor but will work.

Its a 'Mercury Deluxe Classic cam' although ive seen the exact design used by numerous companies. The cam is hard as nails, and i used it to shoot a skating video not long back and it done an ok (seeable) job. According to windows it records at 320x240 pixels too Neutral
Pictures of the wondercam attatched (its not as big as it looks).

Depends, its going to be quite poor more than likely... try it in a car, stick it out the window and see how that looks..

Depends on how carefully you mount and where, on a tank bag (you'll have to be inventive) vibrations wont be too bad, but it will be tricky to aim straight
RAM make mounting brackets which are dampened and i've used myself for cameras and it worked quite well
There are sucker tank cam holders, but they are too expensive for what they are, ram mount is better by far...

See above Wink The advantage to bar mounting is it pointing where you are pointing.. ideally it should be mounted as low as possible, lower the angle the faster+better it looks

The ram mounting bracket is cheap, dampens the vibes and is fully adjustable for wherever you want it, strong as a very strong thing too..

However, if you really dont care, you can mount the camera with a 6/8mm (not sure which) bolt into the base of the camera, if its made of plastic then its iffy, either case secure with cableties.

EDIT - Mounting it direct to the frame e.t.c. WILL f@ck it in short order

could just stick it to the front side of a mirror?

what bike will it be fitted to?

the FPS and resolution aren't that great but will still work fine i reckon.

What i was thinking was that there is a spare tapped hole where my ( i think its left hand side) mirror should be, i could get my dad( or i could do it if there wasnt so much shit in the garage) to whip up an adapter bolt, one side into the mirror mount, other side into the tripod mount on the camera, and fasten some cable ties round.

*Edit: forgot to mention, will be fitted to the RX50

7fps Confused, my camera records at 15fps and I wouldn't consider it with that. Neutral

if the camera has the thread on the bottom for mounting on a tripod then you could pick up a shoe for it and make up a bracket from that and and old mirror stalk so you could mount it to any standard diametre mirror stalk mount on most bikes.

I took this little tester video last night when i first gave birth to the idea. The video seems a bit choppy, but thats because the acctual visulisations are choppy. The only grudge i would have is that as soon as light levels drop, the quality goes to shit.

This is off a DV2000, cheapo camera 15fps (as in the pic)

Lightlevel changes make these go a bit mad, can take 5/6 seconds to sort itself out (which is quite a long time)

Seems not bad at all, still good at high speeds? I will try shooting the camera out the window of a car, if it looks ok i'll drag the bike out the garage tommorow, and have a look at my options. If the camera sucks, i'll resort to cash converters Laughing Sometimes they have good, reasonably priced crap in! Thanks for all the help guys, i'll repost tommorow with what happens!

WinRAR. Much better than Winzip, and handle .zip files as well.
