Sad

Well, header says it all.

"High sided" the CAT this morning, um 35 mins ago. Just left home, not even 100 yards form my flat. Doing about 10mph thank goodness. No traffic in the road as it is a raod leading behind the shops. Speed limit is 20 on it.

Road turns left, I turned left and : "vroom screach eeeek crash scraaaape VRRRRRROOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM click" (those sounds are closest I got to understanding the whole incident, wear earplugs). Some local gents at the VW worshops close to my flat heard it all, and rushed to help, 1st aider included. One of them is a biker, Norman rides a sexy R1. Got checked out at roadside and helped to my feet. Thanks guys, I will be buying them a pint this weekend in appreciation.

What lead up to it, had the weekend off, celebrated b'day Sunday. Monday was CAT cleaning day, chain, swingarm, callipers etc. Last task was to clean chain. Due to me being "clever", I rotated the rear wheel by hand, well with cardboard and gloves, clean chain, rotate wheel, rinse repeat. Obviously duh I transfered some muck onto the rear wheel, can only be. So obviously going around the left turning bend did not help, and went poopy for me. And no, don't have mushrooms fitted, I cannot understand how items bolted onto the engine/motor can "help" with impact. Faigings might survive, but what about the engine etc the items bolt onto/into?

The damage is all cosmetic, as can be expected.
Right lower fairing badly rashed (will need replacing more than likely)
Upper fairing cracked and missing a few pieces, impact point caused the lippy part to shatter
RF indicator seems to me impersonating a perescope (sp?) Laughing
Exhaust hanger it bent.

Lucky for me my right leg saved the rest of the right hand side of damage Shocked
Damage to me seems to be minimal, clothing did their job.
Thumbs Up to my gear!
Limping a bit, no visible bruises, hip bit sore, knee aching slighty, and pride. Will go see doctor just for safesake.

Ah well, oops. It is running, drove it back home. So now to go find the spills counter and add my name.

Ebay ahoy! Anybody got some CAT fairings going cheap, please pm me.

Regards,
Steve

I fell into the same trap as you (possibly).

Are you sure it was a highside?

I went round saying id highsided the cbr cos the back end lowsided me, but i assumed lowside was front and highside was back Embarassed

Highside means a slide, and then it grips and throws you over the top.

Lowside means a loss of grip and it just hits the ground (as do you).

Im sure someone may come explain it more eloquently.

Glad you're alright. Make sure you take it easy for a couple hours, the adrenaline will still be corsing through your veins, so you may not know the full extent of injuries for a while. Just be careful with knees etc.

My brother had a fractured wrist for a week before anyone noticed, and he had stayed over night in hospital to be checked out.

A highside occurs when your bike starts to lowside, your tyre regains grip, and stands upright very quickly, throwing you up in the air to the outside of the corner.

In your case, it would mean your bike stood up, and chucked you off to the left.

Unlucky mate, we're dropping like flies out there, i'm kind of worried im next lol.

Keep on riding!

Left hand bend - outside's the right.

Plus the right hand side of the bike is damaged. So that suggests highside, albeit a very icle one as 'my leg saved most of the damage', it sounds more like a mii highside followed by falling over onto the right hand side.

Sorry to hear about it mate, nothing like a shocker first thing in the morning!

Ouch mate, glad your alright though! Main thing!

Makes me glad I've been off the RD for 5 weeks, because in those 5 weeks, the weather has been awful. It was begining to get wet and miserable around when the RD broke, but the past 3 days have been gorgeous, and now the RD is approaching its return, looks like shes in for some good weather hopefully!

Ride safe! Thumbs Up

A quick blast of cillit bang followed by a shedload of water should see it alright. Cillit bang is just very very strong acid, so it'll dissolve most things, but fat, grease, oil, wax etc... will be the first to go.

It'll eat through the oil first. Just spray a bit on a cloth, wipe your tyre where affected, then just abuse it with the hose pipe.
