I'd advice against a takachi, I had one for a year and it was crap. Saved my head in an accident, but was noisy as hell and it all rattled.

Pay £50 more and get a £99 caberg, thats what I've got at the minute, and its a whole world better than the tackyshi(t).

My last two helmets have been Nitro N800vs, and I've loved them. Pretty quite, perfect fit for me, decent ventilation, look pretty smart. Think that range is discontinued, I assume it's replacement will be similar in quality, although the helmet lining looked a little over-done and flashy!

Stay away from Takachis, they're cheap, shit, and ped boi's choice. I bought one off eBay but sent it straight back; the build quality is unbelievably bad.

I got a Lazer, simple helmet, Vertigo shape, nice enough for me. £70.

Just don't get a cheap Nitro. It is the most uncomfortable helmet I've worn, I literally had headaches with it. It saved my life, but I was almost glad to get rid of it after less than a week.

I always go for nitro, l,ve had 3 now (NV600, NV800 and a NV1000 race rep) excellent well fitting helmets that you can buy tinted visors for.

Buy the best helmet you can afford. Nitro are quite good i beliveve but stay away from taki helmets. Remember you are protecting the most important part of your body so don't skimp out. Thumbs Up

i would recommend if you can afford a Shoei helmet then go for it, i used to have £150 caberg helmet which was ok for short journey but 4 hour ride killed me neck. The shoei helmet i got is great at speed, extremely light and comfortable. The only thing is as its a racing helmet it is noisy and you would need to listen to music or ear plugs for long run?

I have a Takachi TK-130X, which I paid £45 for brand new on ebay (I bought a cheaper one but they didn't have my size in stock so for an extra £5 they sent me this model which was about £80 in their ebay shop Thumbs Up It is OK for £45, but I intend to buy an Arai or a Shoei when I can afford it.

Comparing it to my Dad's AGV lid there is a definate difference in quality, but if you're on a budget get the Takachi now and a nicer one later, then keep the Takachi for pillions Wink

Could anyone tell me if there is a difference in the protection a Takachi would offer compared to an Arai, for example? They have both got the safety standards but would the Arai be any better above the standard?

Thanks,
Matt

its often worth keeping an eye out for discountinued stock or last seasons helmets. Being the fashion statemnt they are they do go quickly down in price. I got a £250 Arai helmet for £120 (some had dropped as much as £80) and it was a good quality buy.

Shop smart Wink

I got a V-Flyer reduced from £210 to £130 in HG a couple of summers ago. Apparently it was "last year's colour scheme", but I've seen it for sale all over the place since, often still for £210.. Confused

At infinity they used to chuck old helmets in the bin, one helmet a takachi i think when they threw at the floor cracked open in two.

Cliff can confirm. Thumbs Up

My dad bought a Nitro lid from Busters, and highly recommends it. Says it's really quiet, very comfortable and it's ACU approved. Plus it only cost £45. He bought it as a cheap lid for work and he's ended up wearing it more than his Arai.

I'd reccomend Nitro lid's too. I had a 70mph off and went down the road on my face Sick Luckily the nitro lid & visor did the job and my face is fine here's a picture [ small one because its off my phone ].

I have an old takachi tk30 that i bought when i first started out. I then got offered a cheap hjc lid and the difference is huge, the hjc lid is so quiet and feels much better made. I dare say they would both protect your melon the same in a crash, but the tk30 is noisy. Wink
