Hi,

My bike is a bit of a bumpy little fucker, I'm feeling every bump in the road, plus some I'm sure aren't there Wink

On the springs at the back, there is a silver hoop (A bit like a giant nut) thas has various sized rounded grooves in... I take it I twist this to adjust the spring? What would I use to twist it, as there I no tools I can thing of that would grip the odd looking pattern across the top of it... Do I need to click it towards a shallower groove or a deeper one? (From the top of my head, they are both on the second longest groove)

Thanks for the help as always,

Toby

U can use a tool called a C spanner.... Or if ur like me.......... a Hammer and a Screwdriver Laughing

The longer the bit poking down on the shock the tougher the suspension will be as the spring(shock) is under more compression to start with....

etc....

ahhh feck it Stinkwheel put a proper explanation up i cant make sense today Embarassed

Does your bike have the toolkit with it? There is a proper C-Spanner that comes with the bike, which will either be with the Toolkit, or with the manual in its place behind one of the sidepanels.

If you find a way to adjust it, then play around with it till you find the setting that you like most(not too stiff, not too soft). I believe there are 5 preload settings.

Cheers for that, softening it up will make it less bumpy? I will use one click per day until I find the setting I like Smile

That's the best way to do it. If you're regularly carrying about loads on the back, then a harder setting is better as the handling will be more normal with a load on, though it will be much harsher without as much load. On the hardest setting, expect the back end to spend as much time in the air as on the ground on a bumpy road. Whistle

On ours I believe there are five settings, setting it to the third notch works best. Softest wallows in sharp corners, you can feel the whole bike bouncing up and down when you're cranked over, which isn't very endearing. Equally hardest will bounce you about all over the place, but when I had 25 odd kg perched on the rack and pillion seat, it was (almost) fine. Shifty

In a word, no. That is unless the suspension can be compressed with your hand (in which case there'd be something wrong), that is what you are working against when you turn the ring around, the increased height of the steps are compressing the suspension.

A hammer and centre punch/ drift or similar can work, but will tend to mash up the grooves on the ring.
