Britain will be first country to monitor every car journey
From 2006 Britain will be the first country where every journey by every car will be monitored
By Steve Connor, Science Editor
Published: 22 December 2005
Britain is to become the first country in the world where the movements of all vehicles on the roads are recorded. A new national surveillance system will hold the records for at least two years.
Using a network of cameras that can automatically read every passing number plate, the plan is to build a huge database of vehicle movements so that the police and security services can analyse any journey a driver has made over several years.

In the process, the data centre will provide unrivalled opportunities to gather intelligence data on the movements and associations of organised gangs and terrorist suspects whenever they use cars, vans or motorcycles.
wtf , I thought bikes were immune to ANPR? due to the fact bike plates can be at various angles .....
oh
btw I'd like to add
Also, I'd like to insert a cliche: I've got nothing to hide.
Until you get pulled in by the police on a murder charge because you happened to be near a murder scene...
I keep seeing broad laws being passed with people saying "well it's ok for them to be really broad because noone will ever abuse them" and then they get abused _every time_.
For example: does shouting "nonsense" in a political debate make you a terrorist? The government seem to think so
https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4292342.stm
. Just days before that happened, the Prime Minister argued that it was ok for the anti-terrorism laws (the same ones used to detain someone for shouting "nonsense") to be so broad because the police would never use them inappropriately.
Canada looks all the more enticing all the time , best sort out my weaknesses and get together 10 grand to be eligable. |

Oh no, the terrorists are coming to get us!!
Fuck that, the government are coming to steal our money and stamp down on our liberties, again. This terrorism thing is a load of old bollocks by now, it's only successful because the government and media keep bringing it up and ramming the idea that we're under attack down our throats. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

ANPR is just the tip of the iceberg, now your mot is computerised its linked with DVLA and all insurance holdings database, so now they know when you are legal what your bike should look like and the insurance database holds details of any mods you have declared on your vehicle. Get stopped now and the police can see if you've declared the mods on your motor, if not you are not insured! Same as no mot, if you dont have that then you are not insured. Next time you get the chance just look at the equipment inside a traffic car, you reckon that pc screen will just display your name and address!? Remember on a bike they will stop you for no reason, just because they can and once they have you at the roadside......................... ____________________ Here comes the summer! |

I think this is already happening
Was in the Sainsburies petrol station in Bristol yesterday where they had a small sign stating they had ANPR in operation that was automatically linked to a police database. |
