ok peoples , now i have a reason for an aftermarket cylinder kit,
because i fitted my new exhaust with my mate, took it for a test drive and smashed the exaust manifold clean off the bottom Mad Sad

so , took my usual trip down to Laguna's talked to my usual assisstant, Bill, asked him how much for a new cylinder barrel,
his answer was that its gonna cost for a genuine suzuki part around 90 odd quid, and that trying to mate a worn in piston with a new barrel isn't easy,

so... he suggested that for my moneys worth i get a aftermarket 70cc cylinder kit.

now, my mate advised me that the most reliable cylinder kits are the NICAST BORE MHR REPLICA cylinder kit, now i was hoping somebody would know where to find a MHR REP NICAST BORE 70cc Cylinder kit for a SUZUKI KATANA AY50 lc!

any help greatly appreciated

thanks guys,
jim

Just about any garage in the UK should be able to get you one if you ask them. You could also try

https://www.scootercenter.com
https://www.psn-scooters.co.uk
https://www.chiselspeed.com/
https://www.taffspeed.co.uk/

www.beedspeed.com also have them and other cheaper cylinder kits, the DR kits are very good cast iron cylinders if you need something cheaper and just as strong, although less powerful.

The acceleration will be improved but the top speed will be the same flat out.

The bike will be less reliable and use more petrol.
Other than that, have fun!

Just remember to run in the new cylinder before thrashing it.

If your getting the cast iron one then it will need about 500 miles of gentle running in. Make sure you warm it up for a few minutes before using it then don't drive it flat out or at constant revs for long periods of time. If You get a nicosil lined one then, just warm it up properly and run it in the same way, but just go for an hours drive instead as it doesn't need as much running in.

Enjoy your new cylinder, will make a hell of a difference!

I think what they mean is put a bit of 2 stroke oil in where there spark plug goes through the head and turn it over slowly with the kickstart. You shouldn't need to so this. Although it wouldn't do any harm. Maybe before you first start it after fitting, however the garage will be testing it before you before you ride it.
Just make sure you let it warm up before using it. Thats proabaly the most important thing to remember.

Ok my bike will be going in for the 70cc upgrade at the end of this week, is there anything i should ask them, like what to do to keep it maintained ,??

also i have purchased a K&N Powerfilter, is this easy to fit?? im getting my carb upjetted and tuned, but wont be receiving the filter till a few days after , is it hard get the mixture right. i dont want to spend 30 odd quid for a 15 minute job, my mate ben has offered to tune it so it will work , but if it is a difficult job i mite take it 2 a garage 2 get it done..

any info greatly appreciated

I had a DR cast iron big bore kit on my rs50, i ran it in for about 350 miles, then put about 6k miles onto it before selling it for the same price i paid for it! I used to rag it from cold all the time, hold it at 12k on dual carrigeways for literally hours on end, never had a seizure. Only problem i did have was the head gasket blew, but a replacement cost me £6 from taffspeed (BTW taffspeed are c*nts, brilliant delivery time, but they are the rudest people i ever spoke to on the phone, i'm never buying anything form them again.)

woah this this thing is a yaer and a half old!

i no the katana runs on low gearing
i practically had the bike in pieces and put it back together with binge,

the low gearing helped accelerate to top speed in no time,

and my big end bearing is still fine to this day!

yup stilll have the moped,

needs a new speedo and then i can sell the fucker,

its just being stored in my garage, being charged everyweek.

cos i have a car now!
