Ok up until this point any time I've gone for a ride that requires me to leave the bike parked somewhere like to go shopping or something. I've been forced to carry my lid around with me by the strap. Mostly because the gpx has a helmet lock on it but since it also has twin pipes if I was to use it the lid rests right on the can. Not good for me lid I'm thinkin.
I just recently went and picked up a long pad lock with which I can either lock it to the pillion grab rail or around my handle bars.

I'm just curious if you guys are game enough to leave you lids with the bike or are you content to carry them around with you.

Anyone ever had a lid locked to the bike by what ever means and had it nicked ?

I know I don't have the most expensive helmet out there but I dont fancy forkin out another 300 because someone else liked the look of it.

If we are just local, popping into town we just carry them with us but if we go away we lock them up with the bikes through and under the seats Thumbs Up

same, and this isnt an option!! would never leave it unlocked with bike, probably wouldnt lock aswelll

My RS i used to own had a "helmet lock" that held your helmet and was meant to be secure but i could unlock it with just my hands with a slight bit of fiddling, such a bad design and completly pointless!

Ah but we dont use the manufacturers cable we use some strong stainless steel 10mm plastic coated wire as used in yachting rigging done specially for us by a rigger, you wont be cutting that with a pair of normal pliers or boltcutters, apparently they use a special steel cutting saw! Thumbs Up

I carry it with me, as it gives me a place to put my sunglasses and gloves. On the odd occasion I have also filled it with groceries whilst shopping!

I carry it, no way am I leaving me lid with my bike. I'm not particually worried about theives (apart from when in town of course), but it might get knocked, rolled over, tampered with, whatever.....I'm certainly not leaving an expensive lid with the bike.

Carry it by the face protector. Any little chavs give me any aggro, and the rim at the back of my helmet will have an unfortunate collision with their nose. Simple Smile

Carry it with the strap fastened, holding the strap Thumbs Up

Leave my gloves, neckwarmer etc in it too.

The NSR also has a helmet lock which is a decent design (wouldn't be able to open it), and I used to hang the caberg on it as it had rings on the strap for that purpose. The KBC is more expensive though, and doesn't have the ring, so I can't hang it on there any more. I was also worried about passing people thinking it was funny to tamper with it (never happened but it worried me).

I cable lock it to my bike, just thread the cable lock through it and through the brake discs. Never a had a problem. I sometimes leave my gloves in there. I usually park my bike in a parking area hidden from most people. If Im only stopping for 10 mins or so I'll bring it with me.

Depends on what lid i'm using. If I know I'll be away from the bike for a long time i'll take a £50 Nolan lid and leave it with the bike. I'm really not into carrying a lid round all day.
I wouldn't dream of leaving my Simpson, which I paid £500 for, out of my sight. I think its wise to only leave your lid with the bike if you can live with it getting stolen.

You can fit a loaf of bread, a bag of onions, a packet of biscuits and a box of teabags in there if you're crafty. At least you could last time I tried. Whistle There's no way I'm leaving a helmet with my bike for some scrote to try and steal/ kick/ piss in.

I carry mine all the time, been to a few places and been asked to give it them, like the cinema and Tesco, they say they'l keep it 'safe' but balls to that, dont let anyone touch my lid, and if im out i never let it out of my sight.

Might not save your life if some dumb clot drops it.

I always put mine into pannier. Before I got pannier I used helmet holder.
At service areas of highways(restaurant/ toilet etc) we see many riders hang helmets on mirror of bike unlocked. We are likely to believe nobody will steal helmets when there are eyes and ears around(a little bit too optimistic)
When parking for a long time, we often use helmet holders.
(many of them put gloves into locked helmets)
Once I read the magazine article in which bonneville T100 owners complain about T100 not having helmet holder. Triumph side answered that's because few people use helmet holders in europe.
After I read it, I thought helmet holder is incompetent against thief.
(if thief cut the chin-strap with knife)
It would be nice if no thief will melt the pannier with copper bit.

I had a top box fitted to the GS500 so used to keep my lid in there, but as I haven't got one on the ZZR, I carry it with me.
