PostPosted: 16:10 - 14 Jan 2006    Post subject: Carb Jet + Needle Question Reply with quote

after breaking my last carb i got another off Ebay (£4.99) Bargain Very Happy

went to change the carbs today, gave the one from ebay a good clean and noticed the main jets a different size to mine and also noticed the carb needle is slighty longer.

all my bike has is an allspeeds exhaust, airbox spout has been slightly drilled, and theres no airfilter (dont ask me why)

so, which Needle should i use? and which jet (either a 110 or 120)

cheers

PS it's a K reg NS125r

Hi

The needle position should be adjustable. Could just be that someone has moved the needle on yours (you adjust them by moving the clip on the top of the needle, further to the pointy end to richen the mixture in the mid range). Also I would be tempted to stick with the 120 main jet if that works at the moment.

Only odd thing is that the slide looks bigger as well on the picture you posted. Is the new carb a PHBH26 like the original?

All the best

Keith

Hi

Not sure if the 26 and 28mm carbs are the same body with just different machining. Check what is stamped on the side.

I would use the needle position that you old carb / needle is set to.

Richer is safer.

All the best

if it has 4 notch's, set it too the second from the top, if it has 5, set it on the 3rd.
All the best,
Baz. Thumbs Up

i want to try to get rid of the splutter at 5000rpm though, will raising.lowering the needle help that?

so theres 5 notch's, top notch is richest? and lowest notch is the leanest? or is it the other way round?

Hi

Top notch is the leanest, bottom notch is the richest. Basically using the top notch the needle sits slightly lower. As it is tapered by being lower it is also thicker and so blocks off more of the fuel supply.

All the best
