I just fitted new bearings to the front wheel of my yzf750 today. I knocked em in using the old bearing that had been ground down a touch on the outer race so it would be a loose fit.
I got then in, the spacer is in place & doesn't rattle about, but when I refit the wheel it doesn't spin freely. It will turn a couple of revolutions at most then stop. Is this right or have I gone wrong somewhere?? Question

Hi

Can't think of anything you have done wrong. Presume it is not the brakes sticking. Only thing is if the bearings are directional (not that common).

All the best

Keith

Sounds to me like you have missed out a spacer or got one the wrong way round (the one shaped like a 'top hat' should have the 'brim' of the hat facing the fork leg).

Could also have put the speedo drive back in wrong so it isn't properly engaged with the hub.

Did you replace the spacer in the center of the wheel between the 2 bearings? If left out the bearings become twisted as you tighten up the front wheel. Also the calipers on the FZR and most twin pot Yam calipers are prone to seizing up at this time of year as salt gets in to the seals. Take out the disc pads and see if the problem persists, if it does then the problem is with the bearings, if it doesn't then check and clean out your calipers.

Spacers are all there and fitted the correct way round. Speedo drive is fitted & located correctly. Spacer is fitted inside wheel between bearings so its not that. Calipers have been removed so they're not the problem.
I'm baffled!

If you take out the front wheel, and check the bearing movement with your finger, it should be free and smooth, if not then the bearing is no good, also check the torque setting of the front wheel make sure it was not set up too tight. If all seems OK then I'm at a loss. unless the forks are not level.
