The halfords professional ones have a good reputation I think. Make sure the threads are clean and don't put it away with the wrench wound up to a high torque, it knocks them right out of whack. Also use good sockets (preferably six sided rather than twelve) to reduce the risk of nut/ boltheads slipping/ rounding, leading to inevitable bloody knuckles and damaged equipment. A 3/8" drive wrench should cover (most of) what you need to tighten.* A decent socket set is also a necessity really too.
The only things I have seen which my torque wrench isn't rated high enough for is the rear wheel centre nut on a scooter, and the rotor bolt on the alternator. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

For something as large and highly torqued as an axle bolt, it can be difficult to put enough force on a torque wrench to get it to click anyway. Instead I just put most of my weight on the end of a large spanner or an extended socket wrench. I have only had one loose wheel incident, and that was the time I only tightened it wrist tight. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Another vote for the halfords one..
The cheap ones dont last as long as the springs go off, so what you think is 10lbft soon becomes 15, the 20 then snaaaap! some are ok, but its hard to tell, some are really very bad..
£50 allot but think of it as an investment, a decent one will last years and years.. i reckon mine will be fine in ten years time... ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |
