Do you have to buy a new alarm or can you just get an add on for a datatool alarm so it sends text alerts to your mobile?

my brother got a cheap chinese alarm for 20 quid off ebay, if the alarm went off his keyfob would vibrate and make a noise.

the keyfob could go quite a distance from the bike too.

TBH i might buy the same alarm and fit it next to my Datatool system 3 alarm just so i can have the keyfob alerts

not sure to be honest as i wouldn't be using the siren from the cheap alarm so it would use less battery, i'd just be using it's brain and keyfob

Trying to add a sense of realism, if I was gonna steal a bike, alarm or no, I'd come along with a van, and a couple of strong lads and just pick the bike up and sling it on the back.

If the alarm goes off, so what? Its been proven time and time again that when alarms do go off, no one comes to the rescue.

So, unless the whole process of alarm setting off, you getting the text message, and being able to get back to the bike to fight off 2 or 3 gorrillas is possible..its just a gimmick and a waste of money which could be spent on other things.

Scared off the guys that tried to nick mine.

If you couldn't hear your alarm from wherever you are, wouldn't you rather know that it had been triggered (perhaps by someone working on your physical security) than not know?

Alarms + physical security + knowing when the alarm goes off = best chance of keeping bike.

IMO.

if it goes for long enough *might* waste the power in the battery so they would have to bump start it aswell and could give up, unless was a "in the van job"
