Being 22 and riding for a little over 6 years I’ve come across all types of people with different views on bikes, when I started riding it was all about freedom, the riding itself and the bikes obviously.

I always wanted a scrambler after seeing Terminator 2 when John Connor rode the CR listening to guns and roses…..
I fell I love with it all but have always struggled to afford everything I want for myself and the bike, which then leads to a slightly negative way of thinking about biking, I guess the practicality of it, I can imagine you’ve all had comments from people like “Why not get a car?” “Bikes are dangerous” and the old favourite, “Bikes are silly” Rolling Eyes
Because I am a stubborn git I stand by my passion and won’t let it get to me.

It also makes me laugh when you see bikers depicted on TV shows for example, Street hawk (complete nutter), do you remember Biker groove when a kid got a bike and seemed to turn into a rebel and run someone’s leg over?
Or the recent story on HollyOaks where a bloke (a rapist/bad boy) rides a crosser through fields with some bint on the back. Even down to the advert at the beginning where a girl brings her bloke home and he is a biker, the look on her parents faces is classic, the look is familiar. Laughing
Not sure what I’m getting at specifically here but I posted this after reading the interview thread in General chat, what to wear, how do I look smart etc.
I turned up to a recent interview, cold, sniffing, taking off items of bike wear in front of the interviewer, I felt open to criticism and couldn’t wait to show them I wasn’t a mentalist with a will in one pocket and knife in the other.
It’s known I guess that bikers sometimes look a bit scruffy but the overall opinion seems to be that we are loons and have no respect for other road users and want to die, the feeling I get is that people think I’m just playing about and it’s a bit of a phase.
The image of biking has always given cops a few reasons to pull you, it’s true, we are battling today to get people to recognise bikes as a proper mode of transport and not just a play thing. Thinking

How do you see biking, what is biking, and……..comment on anything else really.

Its not as bad as it used to be. TV executives in particular are notorious for using caricatures of people in adverts and programmes.

Personally I've never had a problem as you describe. Usually if I have an interview or something I either get the train or go by car.

Admittedly I did turn up for the interview for this job by bike...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I ride a DT125 now , and used to ride a Derbi Senda (Both supermoto models) , which are usually seen as young tearaway idiot bikes. I don't go "crusing" round the local yoof club etc , neither do I ride like a tosser (wheelie , stoppie , cut car up etc).

So some of us young un's are sensible !!

Its bloody idiot born agains I cant stand , who have a fireblade , give it handfuls of throttle and get up to 100 MPH + on the straights , but are scared to corner at more than 35 MPH , when i can do the same corner at 60 ish.

Does anyone else like only the starwberry flavoured milkshakes and not like any others? Confused

Seriously, the other thread was mine and i like to make a good impression. I wear full leathers everywhere (and yes, this does include my current work)even if popping out for 2 mins down the road. The reason i made the other thread was because turning up in 'tatty' leathers in with stiking blue/white/grey lines surely doesnt give the right impression to the employer?

My other half's mum always used to tell her she didn't want her going out with anyone who rides a bike.

11 years together now, 3 years married and a 6 year old daughter.

Laughing Thumbs Up

Sounds like I may be the fortunate one here...
My OH's family are either very supportive of my biking (or at the very least, tolerant).

Her mum regularly went pillion with her dad when they were younger, and her uncle *hinted* that he'd be interested in hearing how I feel if/when I hit 3 figures for the 1st time Wink

When I was 18 myself and 2 other mates went to our 2nd reading festival (music not books btw) my mate had passed his car test and I hadn't yet so I was a passenger my other mate was on his 125 (had no interest then so dunno what sort just remembered it was white with lots of fairing) We used to rip the piss out of him as we used to get to the top of a hill and had to wait but he had us on flats. I couldn't understand why he had a bike and said I thought it was very unsafe and if anyone wasn't a 'typical biker' it was Colin. I had no interest until parking prob at work forced me onto a bus aaaaargh... 4 weeks later my Brother popped over from wales with his new Bandit, it stirred feeling I didn' know existed (with the bike you perv's) then I thought with my current circumstances I could actually justify having one. 2 weeks and 1 CBT later I have my first bike and I love it. My poor old car (that can go twice as fast as my 125) sits in the garrage and occasionally comes out at weekends. I really regret my attitue with Colin now and understand how much fun he was having. I miss the opportunity getting into bikes that early on may have given me, still I'm doing it now
