Apologies, this is a 'what bike' thread of sorts...
I've sold my ZX6R and hopefully my Supermoto will be gone by next weekend, leaving me with (hopefully) 4k.
I plan to buy a different bike and a car (the car at a later date, if I go back to uni this sept.). Thing is, I really can't make up my mind what bike is best so I'm hoping someone's been in a similar position before.
My brief: 27 years old, 3 year NCB, between 2 and 2.5k to spend. I don't do as much riding as I should and most of what I do is around town with some short commutes (so more or less a seasonal rider but by no means weekend warrior).
Option 1: A Honda Hornet which will be great around town and will be fine for commuting on B roads. On my budget I can get a looked after one with a few cosmetic mods. I do like the look of them and have owned one in the past but, well, it's not a sports bike.
Option 2: A ZX7R; I love these big girls (stable with a great front end) and like the idea of owning one. It's not really a town bike but will also be fine on the short commutes. I can also get a decent one on my budget and it's a lot more 'sportier' than the Hornet, although this will also be reflected in the running costs.
I keep on changing my mind every five minutes so I'm hoping someone can provide me with some arguments either way...in a nut shell it's a bit fo a head (Hornet) vs. heart (ZX7R) thing.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

Why is the 7 a handfull round town?
I have had my 7 from new for 4 years now and quite often I go for a play round town, baiting the boy racers and generally making a nuisance of myself
It will depend a little on how tall you are (i'm 6'2'') and the 7 will feel heavy and slow turning compared to your 6 for a while, but there are easy suspension mods/tyre changes that can be done to alter that.
Don't get me wrong, i'm sure that the Hornet is a very accomplished bike too, but if you are looking for a bike with a history and kudos, the honda just aint it compared to the Ninja.
I has to wait for 6 years before I could afford to insure and but my 7 and it was worth it ____________________ You will become my force of retribution. Where you tread, doom will follow. Go now and claim your destiny |
