I've been ringing round for quotes for my new bike. Express insurance gave me a good quote, swinton beat it by £15 and lowered the excess by £200. So I call Express back, guy lowered his again. Now comes the good bit.
When I asked for a reference he said the new quote was only valid if I paid then. If I call back later tonight it will be £10 more, cus they don’t like people calling round other insurers! WTF, isn’t that the point, I get as many quotes as I can so I get the best deal!
Express wont be getting my business even if swinton cant beat the new quote!

I know, Thumbs Down it like when you come to make a claim and they pay for someone to see how they can not pay, although they have to pay 3rd party part by law but can still sue you for it if its alot and you have invalidated your insurance (eg full system you didnt declaire, 33bhp restrictions etc)

Have to say, that is extra cheeky and i hope you told him where to shove it!!! Middle Finger Evil or Very Mad

It's a bluff, typical sales technique. Just ring them back later and ask for the same price, they won't lose a sale over £10.

Hi,

I managed to get my insurance quote down by £450 (Was £700) by telling him that he would have to make it lower when he said "final offer, if you call back I won't be here, I'm off now on holiday", and then letting him stew for a few hours. Calling him up again, and telling him to lower it more.

If you get the same guy you can hammer them until they crack.

Like Maurice said, it's a bluff.

Various insurance companies tried this technique with me, but they always gave me the same price when I called back.

I went with Swinton again Jay, they dropped mine this year down to 179 quid (from 275 last year), which was nice.

I had to play the girl I spoke to off from another company that had given me it lower than my renewal figure.

I'm surprised that Swinton aren't offering you a better deal all round as you're effectively bringing them new business.
