Hello all
I am a older biker and ride vmax.
My eldest son has just turned 17 and is after a 125, I have persuaded him not to go for an aprillia (cos there crap and unreliable) Before you all write in saying aprillia are good, im sure if you own one you do think there good.
We have been looking at CBR & NSR 125s and I think he likes the look of the NSR
I know nothing of these small bikes and would like some info, but I don't want any Bull, I am sure we all think our bikes are the best and there is not anther to compare to it, I do about my Vmax (but thats because there is nothing to compare to it)
The questions I want answered are,
What am I looking for when I go to buy one
When was the last year they were made.
Is it a reliable machine.
What Prices should I expect to pay.
I would also like to know some general spec's of the bike (I don't even know if its a two stroke or a four stroke engine)
Cheers Gerry

NSR's are 2 strokes Gerry.
I've never ridden and would never DREAM of owning one, they're two stroke and two strokes should be ridden OFF road not on it!
I just don't like them, i'm 17 and if i was living in the UK i'd rather pick up a VFR 400 NC24 or a ZXR400 and have it 33 bhp restricted.
Please whatever you decide to get him, for the love of god get him full leathers, the results are quite nasty otherwise
Regards,

Its a 2stroke
Its the more reliable of the 1252strokes (the sporty ones anyways) i think they stopped them in 2002?ish..
They make about 28bhp or so dcerestricted, restricted they should do 70/80ish (with some effort maybe)
Prices depend on the year, i'd get an older one with a recent rebuild becuase its likely to get dropped/scratched ..

my m8 recently had a nsr 125 2002 model untill it was stolen but in the short time he had it he had no problems with it and considering it was his 1st ever bike he took to the bike like a duck to water, ive had the pleasure of riding a few times and they seam like realy nice bikes im 6" 4 and found it comfy and it was realy fast (compared to my ped)
and it is a honda so as the biker folk laws state "its reliable", nothing rong with 2 strokes jsut keep them well looked after.
my lil mbk scooter has nearly 14,000 miles on the clock but ive looked after it some of my mates peds dint even get to 7000 miles befor they fucked up ____________________ [MBK Ovetto 50cc] [CPI Popcorn 50cc - FOR SALE - With pics]

How many Aprilias have you owned?
Ive had mine for along time, Ive cleaned the Power Vaulve out once, took me a couple of hours. And my worst problem was I kept blowing indicator relays, but I later learned that this was because of my Micron arrow indicators and somtimes they need a special relay.
Ive beaten My friends NSR, I beaten a mito which was a well cool race threw some twisties, I didnt even no him but he was a better rider than me, or at least more mental as he was really taking the courners flat out.
Im 10,000km in and my bike shows no problems of needing a rebuild, But ill probably just stick a new piston in, another couple of hours in the shed and then itll be back on the road.
Use good oil, warm it up, I still thrash mine on the roads pretty much every ride.
The only regret I have with it is I cant go off road. |

I'm also sure that once you've passed your test and had a go on something bigger whether it be a quick blast on a mates bike, a test ride from a dealer, even a DAS lesson, you will change your mind.
Even I wouldn't go back to a 125 now and I only ride a low-powered 250 cruiser! (ps until July anyway...... ) |
mostly you are right, but some people hang on to their 2 stroke 125's. I have, so has keith, fuzz, simple, and those are just the people I've met. Im sure there are loads of others on here who for whatever reason hang onto their 2 stroke 125 several years after they get a bigger bike.
I suspect you havnt ridden a 2 stroke 125 which may be why you cant imagine anyone hanging onto them.
They are fun.
The only reason I did my DAS and got a big bike was that I had a big wodge of cash. If I hadnt, the rs125 wd have been fine, although I might have got a cg125 for in town stuff as a 2nd bike.
If people dont have a big wodge of cash there is nothing wrong with them using 2 stroke 125s for years. They are good bikes. ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |
