Im planning a new bike next year and need help in deciding my next bike. I want a v-twin just becuase of the torque and not needing to go 185mph. Im looking at 916, TL1000, VTR and RSV Mille. Who thinks what is best?

As a side note, i LOVE the twin exhaust look on the VTR and TL1000, does anyone know why some RSV Mille have twin exhaust and some dont???

Cheers

Depends on how often you'll be rideing it...

TL-1000 get my vote, if its had suspension tweaks bonus and a better steering damper is a defenate plus (from what i've been told from previous tl owners)

Its the only one i'd expect to work if it rains Razz

tlr with high levels = Drooling Thumbs Up

As for the RSV, they dont have twin exhausts unless you put them on, the RSVR's I think have them as standard, and so do the RSVR SP's! Thumbs Up

I was in the same position last year, was going to get rid of my ZX9 for a V-Twin, but decided against it. The sound of the V-Twins are wicked but the inlines are better! Karma Mr. Green

to be honest i dont really know the difference feel/performance wise between a inline 4 and a v twin, can anyone explain the difference. Is there a massive difference? or just a difference that a very fast rider will notice?

Power delivery is different, a litre 4 will be a howling beast the power just goes up and up, a twin will feel allot more punchy.. (allthough an inline four is generally the same power/torque at low/mid as a twin, but the delivery is different)

Personal preferance mostly, speed dosn't really come into unless your on a track or extreemly good allready..

part throttle repsonse is better on a twin out of the bends, whereas a four needs time to spind up.

As for the question about the twin exhausts on the RSV1000. In 2004 Aprilia restyled the RSV giving it twin headlights and an exhaust on either side rather then one on the right hand side the size of an industrial chimney, as it was before 2004.

wasn't the TL considered a widow maker , when the radial rear shock got over heated by the exhaust, and the front was wayy too flappy?.

Just to add some MORE confusion to the bag , you could always get an inline 4 and do some mods to change the engine to a big bang engine , or turn it into a big bang triple, I recall Stink wanted to make a big two cylinder single ?? once didn't read the end of the story

i think you should think about falcos and tunos too
very similar to the mille but go amazingly cheap on ebay

there was a 2001 falco that went for about £1650 recently

Tuono's are nice, but it sounds like he's after that sports bike look!

As for power delivery, the last 4 cylinder bike I rode was great fun, power built steadily up to 6000rpm as you would expect, then got a bit more mental the more gas you gave it!

My TL-R builds tremendous amounts of power from nine-hundred RPM and keeps going. The torque of the motor is awesome, it's like the power band is at 900rpm with another around 9000rpm.

You only have to let the clutch out without touching the throttle and it moves off, often catching the car in front. You can sit in second gear at 40 rpm without touching the throttle and it just keeps pulling. I love it!

Plus, the noise on race cans is awesome!

Cheers guys, this all helps.

I love the idea of the torque at low revs, so i think a v twin is for me. Now i need to decide which, the front of a VTR is ugly in my opinion, but the rest of it looks lush. The TL looksgood, but not draw dropping. I would go for an rsv but the lack of the double rear exhaust is a pain.

We will see next year eh Thumbs Up

I'm sure I'll get slated for mentioning it, but note that sports litre twins tend to be only very slightly up on torque at low revs and often have lower midrange torque than litre 4s.

However they tend to feel like they have a fair bit more because they're lacking at the top end, making it feel like there's relatively less more everywhere else.

[edit]Actually, mr Z already mentioned it[/edit]

yeah i thought it wdnt be long b4 G mentioned this, as i have read him saying this a few times.

also thou IL4s tend to be more economical on fuel

u can get a 98 r1 for £2500

a 98 r1 is as revvy as a 600 as it has a lot of low end torque

Just on looks i would take the rsv, but the fact that it has a single exhaust just annoys me, however childish that may be
