So ive now got 3 points
Overtaking a learner car being stupid and went up to 40mph in a 30.
As i was getting to the end of the road a cop jumped out from behind a car and pulled me over. Turns out there were 3 all standing behind the car
He told me i was doing 42, fair enough, i probably was. And that the reason they were there was because "There were reports of a green Kawasaki speeding up that road"
That green kawasaki is a mate of mine who has a pretty loud Art race can
Oh well, £60 i dont have now has to be paid to them within a month, ontop of the £100 for a new tyre and ~£70 for new brakes i dont have.
Oh and i did mention the fact that there were hiding, he told me to look at the sign above there head, "Speed cameras"
There isnt a proper speed camera around for miles! And theres only one of em!

A lot of people on here say that sort of thing is avoidable, it’s just to do with timing, you weren’t pushing it.
I guess you know the road, you know it has signs for cameras, but no cameras. And that is the reason they hide. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

yeah fair enough I understand that it wasn't a particularly dangerous move, but thats not really my point...
I'm not trying to start a long argument or anything. I just wanted to make it clear that if you do speed in a 30, you're asking for trouble for a variety of reasons. I'm not a safety nazi or anything, but 30's need to respected, its better for everyone that way ____________________ "he who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"- Dr. Johnson |

How long have you had your license, about 6 months? So you've now got over a year of riding round on tenterhooks knowing that 3 more points and you'll lose your license... ____________________ Hard livin', hard luck. |

Doing near 40 in a 30mph area isn't a big deal (ie most people do it). What I might have a problem with is overtaking someone who is doing the speed limit. Fair enough if they were going slower than the limit (and you do suggest they were doing 25). ____________________ About me|@Major_Grooves|My company|Digg|Flickr |

Keen: you become a safety Nazi for hassling people about it, not for thinking it, or so I am led to believe .
40 in a 30 can be a load safer than 30 in a 40 in some situations.
If the learner was only doing 20 say, it'd be better to accelerate faster, and pull in a way infront of them then go past them slowly then pull in going just faster them in my opinion.
Sadly the police often monitor speeds in places where it's safe to go over the limit.
If you were cheeky, you could try and argue the accuracy of the gun, but may well back fire. |

no disagreement from me on either of those points.
But 30 limits are where people see bikes mostly, so its speeding through these areas that's giving bikers a bad public image, leading to increased pressure for restrictions and limits. 30 limits are (obviously) filled with pedestrians, cyclists, kids etc as well, so the police are clearly going to monitor speeding there more than they do on a deserted B road (possibly not always the case, but thats a different story on camera placements. The cops in co. durham are pretty sound on this, not a single stationary camera in the county actually).
So all I'm saying is: speeding in 30's is daft because it makes us all look bad and theres a high risk of getting caught, getting points and a nasty fine. I'm no 'safety nazi', however you want to define it, I just intend to keep my license clean and see no problem with backing off a little through town to do this.
If I was gonna get points I'd like to at least think it was 'worthwhile', like for hooning along in a 60 having fun..... getting points for doing 37 in a 30 or whatever would piss me off. ____________________ "he who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"- Dr. Johnson |
