ive been doin some serious polishing on my can using autosol (i think its called)
looks nice n shiny from a distance but up close ive got little dots everywhere, to me it looks like corrosion but im not sure.
to the touch the surface feels perfect like glass.
the can looks to be stainless.

anybody else dealt with this or have any ideas?
id love a like-new appearance on it.

You might want to try giving it some love with fine grade (1500) wet and dry and then back on with autosol Thumbs Up

First try some tar remover and if that doesn't work rub it lightly with one of these washing up scourers and some soapy water.

Might be down to heat if there's nothing on the surface. The top of my headers are suffering from it a little and won't polish out using normal methods (i.e. general polishing). If it's ingrained into the metal, you may have to polish off the top surface - which means wet'n'dry or something as abrasive - seems a bit harsh to me though. Tar splatters would normally polish out quite easily - even from paintwork, using a light use of Brasso or finer (I tend to use Belgom Alu for this kind of use).

What kinda can is it - anything I can't polish out I tend to replace - exhausts can be easily recovered if need me.

It's just tar spots. Keep polishing and they will rub away with some hard pressure. Failing that and for a quick solution try some cellulose thinners and/or meths.
