Hi, I can't stand reading posts that are extremely long so I thought I'd write a short story of what happened and include some pictures. Very Happy

I low sided on a left hand bend and trapped me foot and broke my peg, no real reason for the low side maybe a bit of grease or gravel on the road?? Stood the bike up it and headed straight for a car on the wrong side of the road, dived back onto my side but just at the turn in point for a right hander, headed straight for a lampost I chucked it to the right to miss it, front end dug in then I dnt remember much apart from hearing my bike cartwheeling down the road smashing to pieces. Sad

I think i'm extremely lucky to come away with only a smashed helmet and a broken foot and a few bruises here and there, so all is well, not too sure about biking anymore, i'll have to wait an see Confused

Heres some pictures to help with the story and the damage to the bike , more to come Thumbs Up

Cheers Dan Thumbs Up

Smile Cheers guys, I think I'm off to bed its startin to catch up with me a bit shakes you up pretty bad Thumbs Down Dan

Also before anyone says 'oh well he must have been doing a stupid speed' I was doing around 50mph in a national zone and have taken this corner hundreds of times before. I'm going back to see tomorrow to check for gravel or grease as a number of other people said their bikes were twitching and sliding at the same place.

looking at the diagram.. it looks like you over cooked it on the first bend... braked heavily to avoid the car and then smacked into the wooden steak/lamp post thing which sent the bike tumbling ten metres down the road.

thats just my observation of course.. i'm not implying thats what happened

Hi, I was wearing helmet full leathers, gloves, and boots, I NEVER ride without them. I'm pretty sure if I wasn't wearing these I'd be in a dam site worse state than I am now. It does annoy me when I see bikers caining it round bends with tshirt and trainers on and I think they'l learn one day when they go too fast, because I am not a lunatic rider!, I like to oen it up on the odd straight but I take corners nice and easily.

Thanks for your support guys and I hope I am the last of us to come off this year!!!

Cheers Dan Thumbs Up

Bad luck mate, hope you heal soon.

Stock up on the painkillers, you'll start to notice a whole load of other aches and pains in the next couple of days.

Take it easy

OO could have been much worse, greasy road?
could have been an accident prior to you getting there that hadn't been cleaned up properly?

Beautiful weather we have today and you don't know about biking, I'm sure sitting by an open window with the sound of bikes wizzing by and then howling down the bypass would make your mind up I know it drives me mad when I need to get some work done.

Hope your ankle heals well and your back out there with the best of em before too long Thumbs Up

Laughing No sorry, perhaps I could have made it clearer, not really sure how it happened as it was pretty quick and I dont remember much. I went down on the left side and something kicked me back up right, maybe the front getting grip Confused, then ended up upright heading towards a car on the wrong side of the road after saving a low side. Thumbs Up Dan

Sounds nasty, glad your ok (ish) though.

I think he means the bike went from under him, but he managed to regain grip and stand the bike upright, by which time he was on the wrong side of the road.

All would have been fine if it weren't for the car coming in the opposite direction, he dove out of the way, back onto his side of the road, and tried his best to get around the second bend.

Because the lowside and car made the entry all wrong he ran wide and clipped the telegraph pole....game over. Sad

That's my interpretation anyway, please correct me if I'm wrong.

PS: Get well soon, especially now the good weathers started Thumbs Up

Bad luck on binning it though. Hope you get better soon

Well done for avoiding the oncoming car! Shocked

The road looks like the tarmac is breaking up from the edges inwards so there was probably lines of loose gravel mud on the road, probably from heavy tractor tyres overlapping the edges and damaging the tarmac.

Hi, NSRSparkie is spot on with what happened Thumbs Up made it a lot easier to understand Very Happy cheers Thumbs Up
As for the road I have just been back there and the road has broken up in the middle and there is a diference in height of the two parts and it seems my back end slipped down onto the lower part which caused the initial low side.

Get some photos, quick. You might have a claim against the council there.

I hate 'compensation culture' and if you're fully comp I think you should take it on the chin and watch out more next time, but if you're only TPFT you should get something towards a new bike/repairs, just don't take the piss and claim millions for stress or some bollocks

I'm afraid I'm with you on the hating 'compensation culture'. I am only 3rd party insurance as this was the cheapest method. I'll just take this one ont he chin and hold it as an extreme learning curve, Dan Thumbs Up

Well done for avoiding turning an accident into a tragedy, the state of the roads continues to decline, even motorways seem to be carving up badly, especially in the slow lane, the local favourite for blowing out a few cobwebs is the M45, the other week about 2 miles onto it from the M1 the surface has definitley shifted- making it very uneven and causing the bike to weave, i was only on a single cylinder 250, would hate to think if i'd been testing out a quicker bike!

anyway, dont wish to hijack your thread, quick and safe recovery to you and your bike
