ok, i looking at getting another bike and rang my insurers (carol nash) to see if i could get some quote and to keep it simple i just asked them quotes on a: 2000 Kawasaki zx-6r

So they pass me though to some deptartment and have to say they were very helpful not like some call centres i have called Thumbs Up

I tell them i want to change the bike on the policy and they put it in their computer and the results arnt good. Ive got 6 months left and they couldnt swap it over and would have to take out a new policy.

Whats really annoying though is in december the quote (with 2 NCB) is £700 TPFT Shocked which is quite frankly amazing since ill 18 then!!

Also, if i had left my RS125 insurance running i would have 2NCB next month and for the £38 i got refunded i would have done if id known this was going to happen Evil or Very Mad

So i dont know what to do, i cant afford the stupid insurance of £1700 and could get it down to £1000 ish but thats still too much if in december it would be £700 TPFT !!!

So what would you do in my situation? these are my options i think:
1. Get something cheap and rubbish and wait till december and get a winter bargin
2. Get it and bend over for the stupid amounts of money ill have to pay insurance
3. Get a smaller bike (was talking to Craig23 about a RVF400 which would be very nice but still undecided)
4. Other (you have to tell me what!!)

The only problem with option 1 is that i only have a year left here till uni and wanted a zx6r for the whole year not half of it, esp for the summer aswell Sad

I really hope someone can help me as i really dont know what to do now as ive got £2k max and this would just get me a zx6r and i could pay for insurance monthly but would rather wait till december and get it at £700

Hi,

I think from your post that the RS policy was not converted to the SV. If this is the case you have 1 years NCB you can use from that. (NCB can be used for arround 2-5 are the policy lapsed for most companies) You will need to find policy details of the RS policy you cancelled and get a letter off them confiming the NCB.

I assume the SV was no 0 NCB so thats what they quoted you, also even if you loose the NCB on the SV because of a claim it won't affect the RS one.

Also ring round for a few more quotes if you are taking a new policy.

Hope that makes sense

Regards
C

Hi

Suspect that you will not find the ZX6R comfy for a while once the scaffolding is removed.

Personally I would say go for a cheap, fairly light bike with a fairly upright riding position. Something to get used to riding again without agravating the injury. Come the end of the year it will have served its purpose and you can flog it and replace it with what you really want (and the prices will be lower in winter for what you replace it with).

All the best

Keith

so even though i cancelled the RS policy after 7month i can still get 1 NCB? are you sure about that? this policy would have ran out next month just in time for when i get back on the road and Carol Nash would give me £700 TPFT for the ninja. I really hope you are right!!

The 1 NCB i have at the moment is from my moped i had when i was 16.

Erm i dont know what you mean, the policy was taken out with the 1 NCB that i had from my moped and no claim is being made against my insurance at the moment

Yea but since im having to spend another year at college i want to have it as like a treat, something to get me though a year of college when i should be at uni anyways. I wont need to use the bike for long jorneys when i first start riding and think i could be ok

saying that your quite right it could be very unconfortable when i start riding and i could be making a mistake. argh i just dont know!!!

Hi

Well, get the cheapy (GPZ500, GS500, CB500, etc, maybe something like an RD350 if you fancy doing some fixing up as part of the fun) and run it for 6 months so you have your extra years no claims sorted. £500~£1000 should easily cover the bike, and choose carefully and you will get most of it back again. Then you can buy a better treat when prices are at the lowest and your stomach muscles have recovered.

All the best

Keith

£800 tpft with CIA at 18 on a ZX6R.

Expect yours should be cheaper than £1700 once blame has been agreed by insurance companies for your crash.

£2k would get you a cracking 400 sports bike.

Gorgous looks, light and agile, cheap to insure, plenty about to pick and choose.

Thats where my money would go.

I'd have a ride of a few sportsbikes once you're fit to ride and see how it feels, and have a ride of something basic and upright too.

You don't want to sink a large amount of cash into a bike thats painful to ride, but you also don't want to sink any money into a bike that bores you to tears.

Yea im thinking very seriously about the RVF now, seem to be able to pick a nice one up for £2k at the moment and insurance will be much better. I might even save hard and pick up a zx6r winter bargin when i have 2NCB and have it for next summer.

I just need to get the money together and start shoping Very Happy
