Went to take the bike in to have the dodgy wiring on my indicators/tachometer fixed today so my girlfriend kindly agreed to follow me in her 1.2 punto so that I could get a lift back.

Anyway, there's a 60 limit road which we use to get on the M1 which is a right pain to get out of in rush hour (Crossroads - we have to turn right at them onto the 60 road). So this gap appears which there is enough room for both me and my girlfriend to get into if I get a move on, so I pull out and get straight up to 60 (not thrashing it I'd like to add, just making good progress as I was told in my lessons) leaving plenty of time & space for her to get behind me in. As I progress down the road I can still see her in my mirrors and I slow down more than usual as we get to the roundabout at the end to allow her to catch up. I haven't gone above 60 all the way down the road.

At the busy roundabout I get on but there's not enough time for her to, so I next see her outside the bike shop in her car, with a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp. Confused

Turns out she's majorly pissed off at me, because she apparently had to do 75 to try and catch up to me, and when she was doing 75 I was "still pulling away". I'm sure you can imagine the argument which ensued for the next 10 mins in her car (followed by utter silence).

My question is, have you ever been in trouble over something you've done on your motorbike, or is it just me that always seems to be in trouble over things like this?

To be fair I did say I'd stick with her if the traffic was moving OK (which I thought I was doing), but if traffic got heavy I'd filter away. I thought she'd realise that I'd let her catch me up at the roundabout at the end, apparently not.

From joining the road to getting to the roundabout you probably have to travel half a mile at the most, so it's not like I was miles away. Rolling Eyes

They also tend to get a little pissed off if you pass them at about 120 in the third lane not realising they are there. Rolling Eyes

Laughing That reminds me, why is it car drivers are so shocked at how easy it is for a bike to accelerate? I could see when I told my gf that I stuck to 60 that she didn't believe me and thought I must have been giving it the beans.

I'll have to take her on the back (when I've got enough money for a lid and gear for her Neutral) so she can see what it's like first hand.

Thankfully I've never had that one because I got a car license before my bike (couldn't afford bike lessons, but parents offered car ones for xmas & birthday. No way were they gonna pay for bike lessons Very Happy). Do you have a car license?

True, but if you had a car then they couldn't moan to you about how you should get one Wink Although they'd then probably say that you should get rid of the bike and only use the car... Thinking

An ex used to whinge when i didnt ride with a jacket Rolling Eyes

Have accidentally screamed past my grandad when he was due to pick me up from the bike shop and i was running late (and the bike kept trying to stall at low revs. Damn reg/rec).

And theres always the fun of the fastest dualcarriageway (basically a racetrack) being in plain view of my kitchen window.

Yeh, just off for a poddle dad. Whoooooooooooooooooooooosh.

Bless em.

Good Lord Mark!

What has this world come to, big strong guy on his Hayabusa tries to race a little girl on her wee Punto, and says shes angry Laughing

Where is fair play and sportsmanship, the whole place has gone downhill Rolling Eyes

Ideally you should have given your girlfriend a head start, if the drive on her wee punto take 20 mins, any biker with a sense of sportsmanship would have give her 15 mins head start, and then arrived at the same time Mr. Green

Give the girl a break and learn to be a good sportsman when raceing wee puntos, and smart cars Mr. Green

I just got back from seeing her, so I brought it up (bad idea Rolling Eyes). Turns out the reason she got so annoyed was at how fast it seemed to accelerate away from her, even though I was being gentle with it (for once Laughing).

oh god yes.. "why don't you get a car" "we could go shopping sometime" ...

Which involves this...

A) im bored for hours on end
B) I have to pay for petrol
C) If im not enthusiastic i get b***ed at
D) I not only have to pay for petrol (see b) ) i also have to pay for half the stuff..
Middle Finger
Where as with my bike
A) It provides endless entertainment
B) I have to pay less than HALF of what a car needs for petrol
C) You can't see my face or eyes to see whether im enthusiastic or not. (And i enjoy the ride alot more than a "drive")
D)It's very hard to carry shopping in a tank bag.
Thumbs Up
So i wonder which im going to stick with :p
Is it strange that the ONLY people who don't keep asking me "why don't you get a car, why do you insist on a bike" are my parents? and they've never ridden in their lives? :p

Exactly my dilema! 2500 on a Yamaha Thunder cat or 2500 on a Saxo VTR Rolling Eyes I am not driving a 125 mph Hairdresser car. If she wants a car so badly, she can get one.

And just to go off topic, i have sunburn on my arms Crying or Very sad
