well my poor SV650s was masicured on 2nd april as we all probably remember by.......me. im still recovering but nows the time to decide my next bike and start looking for it.

i think i have £2k most at a push and the last £400-500 will be a loan and i will need to upgrade my insurance which will also be a loan. As soon as i get back on though i can start paying this off £50-90 a week from my job that i luckily still have Thumbs Up

Now at first i thought a early thundercat was what i wanted next but soon went back to the bike i almost went for before which was a J model zx6r, now i love the look/sound of these bikes and sure they ride great but insurance for 17 year old is steep which is what put me off last time.

now due to the crash im am going to have to spend a 3rd year at college which was not what i wanted to do as wanted to go off to uni but since this has happened im thinking of treating myself to nice bike to get me though the extra year at college.

my insurance for SV last till december so shouldnt be that much to upgrade for zx6r till then (will ring next few days) and start saving for next years after paying the loan back

so my question is does this sound sensible? any other bikes i should be thinking about that im not?

My mate is currently obsessed with getting a zx6r 2001 model (sorry dont know all this J G H crap)

He has ridden a few bikes before settling on the zx6r he said it feels lighter and a bit quicker than even a k4 GSXR but me tinks he is just biased Wink

Dodsi is a guy you wanna talk too about zed ex's.

I also say go for it! Wink

Early Daytona 600/650 can be picked up quite cheap for about 2K, fuel injection IL4 and great handeling.

another SV ? , tho personally I'd buy that RC45 I saw for sale for 2.3K was unbelievably low mileage tho apparently had been sitting under a sheet in a garage for a very long time.

Laughing I had a j2 and they steer like buses compared to more focuesd bikes like the gsxr and r6. The 2003 + were much better.

I'd probably suggest an early model R6 (e.g. 99-00), they came out cheapest to insure for me and can be picked up quite cheap seen a mint one for £2.2k

Unfortunatley it's probably the worst time of year for any bargains as every power ranger is wanting a bike.

id say early R6 or Gsxr Srad you can now pick up an early R6 for £2000-£2300
And the early Gsxr Srads for £1700-£2100

They are slightly less naturaly quick steering than the r6 and generally a bit more of a 'relaxed' ride.

However if you try (you have got arms to counter steer with?) it will go just as quickly as a stock r6 from the same year.
The zx6 has got a bit better midrange, and a little bit less top end zing.

If you want to speed up turn in speed/reduce stablity, drop the yolks down the forks a bit.
Fitting a higher profile front tyre will also help.

I wouldn't have an r6 as an 'everyday' bike thanks to the riding position, while the ZX6 did me ok.

Got a ZX-6R meself and they're very nice Wink Mine's the newer one with the underseat exhaust jobbie so I'm not too sure how the old one would be similar to it. For doing distance its not as bad as I thought'd it be. Can easily do 300 miles in a day (as did Monday) and can still be fairly comfortable at the end of it. Fuel consumption is pretty shitty on the downside and the ride position can get slightly uncomfy after a while.

RS250's are good for handling and I would'nt mind getting one of them if I had £2000ish to play with.

I'm with tatters and wave, Daytona looks awesome, and if you can get one like that for around 2k, gotta be done.

How about you go lie under an 18 wheeler? We'll even choose your coffin for you.

I still say Thundercat Andy. Wink I'll even let you have a pootle on it when you're better, if I happen to be in the area. It cost me £460 TPFT for insurance. Smile

yea this is the thing, i would love a zx6r and this is my "dream" bike but i think the insurance is going to be impractical, £460 is £20 less than i was paying TPFT on the SV and where same age.

i do prefere look of zx6r J models though, mmmmmmm
