 |
|
Well it's about time I should get myself a new jacket, as my current one is a bit tatty now.
I was considering this jacket, and since it doesn't come with any back protection, this back armour.
I don't want to spend anymore than £180 really, but I need something that will be able to withstand a fair amount of water. Yesterday was a shocking reminder as to how bad my current jacket is at repelling it!
Am I right in thinking that most jackets that don't come with back protection will have a pocket in the back for one anyway? How else would it attach itself to the rider? |

Usually yes, but check the Alpinestars website for full specs of that jacket. Looks cool btw.
Why not get a back protector that you strap on your back? Knox is one make I can think of, and these are generally better for staying in position during a fall.
A guy from the motorcycle club at uni once met a chap in a wheelchair at a petrol station, and was told if he'd been wearing a back protector at the time of his motorcycle accident, he wouldn't be in the wheelchair. Best advertisement to get one I feel. ____________________ My bike: Suzuki Bandit 600 (33bhp)

Exactly. This is why I really one want, especially considering that my current jacket has it.
Not sure if I can be doing with strapping it to my back tbh |

They tend to have a pocket at the back for an Alpinestars back protector, it actually says that it has a foam protector on the Alpinestars site.
If you want something fairly waterproof have a look at the Dainese D-Dry range from somewhere like here, but then I would say that. Get something that zips into your trousers too if you can. |

looks cool but the problem with alpinestars (even though they are good) is you pay for the label, hein gericke have some good looking own-brand leather jackets for less than that
I got the HG 'san remo' one back in october, used it all winter and its stood up well to all weathers. Good quality. Best of all, only 120 quid. ____________________ "he who makes a beast of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man"- Dr. Johnson |

i had this jacket (textile version) and was very hard to keep the white looking white after you get it dirty, i spent hour cleaning it with that jacket stuff that recommended on here and scubed for all this time and 90% returned white but some didnt, wouldnt buy it again for this reason.
I dont know if leather is the same but if it is i wouldnt  ____________________ 99 RS125 --> 02 SV650s --> 03 Speed Four --> 92 RXS100 --> 93 CB400sf --> 01 CB600f Hornet |

at last you think aboput replacing the thing. it started blue, but's more a grey colour now
if you go to hein gerrick, try to get goretex rather than the sheltex stuff. the goretex is much better. more expensive though.
oh, and the hiprotec stuff seems ok, (kinda got it in my arlen ness leather jacket....required some cutting though) just make sure they check it fits your jacket before buying.

Actually it started off as blue/white, and it is now blue/grey! It's hard trying to justify spending £100+ on a new motorcycle jacket when your current one is still doing its job, when you are an unemployed student!
Thanks to all for your advice so far! |
