No, really!

Sutton and East Surrey Water have imposed a drought order, which bans 'non-essential use of water' including 'washing of vehicles or aircraft other than for safety or hygiene'. Thumbs Down

Do you reckon you could argue a build up of dead flies constitutes a health risk? Wink

Well we have plenty of water in Yorkshire! I might go and clean my car, bike and van. Then I will water the garden I think.

Cleaning a bike is important for safety and for hygiene, I'd say. Sweaty arses on the seat for example, and making sure components don't rust.

It is part of safety, how else are you going to see a bolt coming loose apart from when you're going over your bike cleaning it?

Bleh I rarely use a hose to wash a bike anyway, doesn;t clean as well as sponge in a bucket of water. Smile

That's ok. I had no intention of doing so anyway.

Didn't read the linked story did you?

This isn't a hosepipe ban, Sutton and East Surrey Water are banning non-essential use. That includes filling a bucket to wash your bike, and using a watering can to keep your garden looking pretty.
A few others are apparently applying to do the same.

Doesn't affect me yet, but Thames probably won't be far behind, and I don't like the sound of using water from my butt. Laughing

Yep, non essential use. That includes carwashers at garages and filling a bucket for use other than living.

I want to know how they intend to compensate for the garages losses through not being able to use the carwashers, cos they couldn't pull their finger out and supply water like we fucking pay them to. Useless bastards. Maybe they ought to spend the £2 billion profit they milk from us on actually supplying water, rather than lining their pockets.

Collect rain water and use that, it's for free and we get enough of the damned stuff !!

To be honest the only thing you need to keep clean are your lights, so unless your really anal about having a spotless motor then I can't see the problem, I'd much rather have water to drink than a clean bike.

By the way did I mention I've just jet washed mine Wink

They recycle most of the water used.

Apparantly one of the reasons they don't like muddy off road bikes using them as it clogs up their systems.

Every bike should have a good protectice layer of road filth to prevent from harmful UV ray damage! Smile

I haven't washed my bike since November. When I do, all rinsing is done with a watering can, unless the rad needs a good blast out.

Glad it's not affecting me. The bike only gets washed every few months anyway, but I don't know how I could manage not washing the car twice a week. Shocked

Find that just a good rubbing and some good ole gods piss (wd40) and other assorted polishes do the trick just fine, along with some good cloths.

I hardly ever use water to clean my bike, Middle Finger to water restrictions anyway.
