Sorning a vehicle

right as my divvy has failed its MOT and its a pain in the arse to sort out (brake slider pin siezed). road tax is due on 31/05/06. so i may have to get it sorn'ed as may not be able to get it fixed before then and don't want a fine (£80?). so my question is is how long can i leave it before the 31st before i have to sorn the bike. i want to leave it as long as possible so i have a good chance to get it fixed before the 31st

You can leave it til the 1st of June, your current tax covers you up to and including the 31st of May. Thumbs Up

My tax ran out at the end of April and I didn't SORN mine til 10 days later.

I haven't received a fine and I think I read that you are allowed 14 days to tax it before a fine is issued. In theory you could leave it without tax until 14th June, then tax it from the beginning on June if it is fixed in the meantime.

That makes sense actually, because you can't tax a vehicle before the 15th of the month in which it runs out. Therefore, you cant get a month free by taxing it in the month after it has run out.

I normally would only leave it about a week before I do anything.

Used to leave it longer but now that they've changed everything to computers i dont really want to take the risk of getting a fine.

You can SORN or tax ur bike online now too which is handy.
