If you do your CBT on a manual you can only ride manual.
If your 17 or over you can do your CBT on one of the centres geared bikes but then still use ur TAG.
I assume thats a manual?
Manual CBT = Manual bike
Geared CBT = Any bike (under 125cc)

Sorry that is complete crap.
You can take your CBT on anything you want and ride any gearbox you like.
If you're 16, you can do it on a moped and later upgrade to a geared 125 without retesting.
What the fuck is different about a manual and geared CBT? "Manual" and "Geared" mean the same thing.

I dont have a TAG, so would use what the co. got.
I have a Geared 125cc Bike and was planning on doing my CBT before i hit 17 (just over a month), then i will be able to jump right on (with me dad following oon his GSX600F lol ... I Wish it was the other way round with me on the 600 ).
If i did the CBT on a TAG (Twist-and-Go) Which i beleive are Auto (not sure as i never licked em, so never bothered knowing much about them, lol) ...
I thought that no matter how u got your CBT it would entitle you to upto a "Restricted" 125, Geared or Un-Geared at 17? ____________________ 2007 Kawasaki ZX10R :: 1998 Kawasaki ZX-9R - SOLD

please listen to Toby
Get your CBT on a geared or an automatic either way you can ride on a 50cc (if 16) or a 125 (17 or above) there are no restriction whether its a geared or automatic.
There are NO rules to say you did it on a automatic 50cc so u have to use a automatic 50cc. ____________________ [Rides: Suzuki GSF600sx]

I also agree with Toby and others. Although it was a while ago now, they haven't changed the rules on CBT.
I did mine on a Tomos 50 twist and go when I was 16. This allowed me to ride a geared 125 on L-plates when I turned 17. As I remember, there is nothing on the CBT certificate saying what you did it on. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Actually the last one says -
Quote: | For instance, if you took CBT on an automatic 50cc moped, that would be all you would be allowed to ride but if you took CBT on a geared 125cc motorcycle, you would be allowed to ride that and anything smaller. So if you wanted to upgrade, while still a learner, from a moped, for example, to a motorcycle, you would have to take CBT again, but this time on a motorcycle. If you wanted to upgrade from an automatic motorcycle to a manually geared motorcycle you would have to take CBT again on a manual bike. But as yet this provision is not in place. |
which is saying, they might change things but they haven't.
Ride what you want, but I do suggest doing it on a manual if you have that option. ____________________ 09 Ninja & some four wheeled rotary goodness. |

So in summary: it seems that there were plans to have gearbox/capacity restrictions for learners, depending on what they used for their CBT, although this never actually happened.
You're fine |
